UNSTOPPABLE FORCE MEETS IMMOVABLE OBJECT

There is a term in physics called the Irresistible Force Paradox that asks the question, “What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?”. This premise came about thousands of years ago when a Chinese philosopher wondered what would happen when the strongest spear tried to pierce the strongest shield. Would one break? Would they both break? Would they be undamaged? It is a concept that we still examine and reflect on today in physics, philosophy and life in general.

So what does this paradox have to do with weight loss? When we are going about our day there are certain immovable objects that we face that are out of our control – traffic, school, illness, appointments, bills, meals, etc. Most of the time we feel like we are constantly moving from one task to the next. There are certain things in life that are unavoidable and we can’t let that be our excuse every day for not going after what we want. There will be times when we face choices and we realize that these immovable objects are actually within our control. We rise above and make the right and healthy choice even when we don’t think we can. We are unstoppable forces in the face of immovable objects.

We have to be strong like the spear and fight through things that get in our way. Too busy to make a healthy meal? That doesn’t mean you can just eat pizza or pasta because that’s what your family wants to order. Go the extra step and make sure you can have something healthy and on plan for yourself. Running around all day and can’t find a healthy snack? Don’t just reach for candy or chips. Push past the weakness and cravings and find something on program to snack on. There are plenty of choices at every deli, grocery store and gas station. These are just a few examples of when we have to put in the extra effort to do the right thing. We can’t be in denial and think that every day will be easy – if it were easy, everyone would do it.

We have the power to take the unhealthy immovable objects in our life and turn them into healthy ones. Start new routines, make them your priority. Never miss a trip to the gym or the grocery store to stock up for a clean week. If you really want it, moving forward toward your goals will be unavoidable. And even when you stumble or stray from your path, you get right back on because your goals are immovable and you are committed.

The biggest immovable object that will always be there when trying to lose weight is eating. We have to eat every day, there’s no getting around it. The way that you deal with it determines your success. Will you let it get the best of you – will you give in? Will you let the things that block you and shield you bring you down? Or will you be strong, sharp and smart – fighting for what you want every day, becoming the person you always wanted to be – totally unstoppable.
