BEING INCREDIBLE CAN BE UNCOMFORTABLE

Speaker Josephine

Hi everyone, welcome to the Love to Live Healthy show. I’m Josephine Fitzpatrick. Today’s topic is being incredible can sometimes be uncomfortable. We know this right. If you want results, you have to be willing to do what it takes, and this is what it takes. It takes getting up every day and working towards your goal and agreeing that some days will be very, very uncomfortable. And that’s okay, because it’s those tough, uncomfortable days that you get through that make the biggest difference in your outcome. When those uncomfortable times or days appear, you need to work harder to get past them. Don’t waste time thinking of an easier way, because there is no easier way than doing the right thing. The time you actually spend trying to find an easier way or a shortcut could be the time that you already invested into the work that would be getting you to where you want to be.

Now. Listen, I even tell my kids this all the time. For most of us, life is so simple if we don’t complicate it. If you want to do well in life, you must get up every day and work hard toward what you want, what makes you happy, toward your goals. Don’t waste time looking for shortcuts or easy. Just get up, work hard, make good choices and you will reach your goals. We all have to work, and it should be at multiple things in life – at our jobs, families, school, at our love life, at our health and our body. Everybody has to work hard to get to where they want to be, to make good things happen in their life. But the point is, no matter what it is in life that you are working for, if it makes you happy, you get up every day and you put the time and effort into it, I promise you you will reach your goals. You will make it happen. Yes, it may happen slower for some, but slower, or fast, it will happen if you keep doing the right things.

Now, when we talk about everyday life, this applies to everything. Right, consecutive days, hard work, making good decisions will lead to incredible results, no matter what you’re putting your time and effort into, and when you continue to do the right thing, the journey is always going to be just as exciting and rewarding as the outcome. Every day you are closer to what you want. Every day you feel better and better mentally, physically. Every day you are closer to what you want. Every day you feel better and better mentally, physically. Every day you have more and more control, and this should apply to everything in your life the more it makes you happy, the more likely your success will be.

I will tell you one thing, if you haven’t already started working towards your goals and toward where you want to be, I suggest you start now. Spring is here and it is not waiting for you to get ready for it. If you want to be amazing and feel amazing this summer, there’s one simple solution Follow your program. Do the right thing for your body, do it for your mind. Stay on your program. As you know, there are all types of people in the world. There are those who do and those who talk about doing. You have to decide who you want to be. It’s up to you if you want the very best results. It’s up to you if you want to be thin or you just want to talk about how you wish you were thin, how you wish you were eating better, how you wish you were healthier. If you want to be a talker, be a talker. If you want to be a doer, start working towards it now.

We know one of the very worst feelings is having a party, an event, an occasion and not being ready for it, and looking back and saying I should have, I could have, why didn’t I? You know, some things come up out of the blue and we just think, oh, I wish I would have known, I would have had more time, I would have made sure I was ready for it. But spring is here and summer’s around the corner. And we go through spring and summer every year, so it’s not like you didn’t know it was coming. So you’re either going to be ready or you’re not going to be ready. Right now you have the time to get yourself in motion and make the changes you need to make, to see the differences you want to see. And while many of you still might not reach your goal by summer, if you start now, you will know you’ll be closer to it than you are today. If you start now, you are going to be so much in a better place by the time summer comes than you are today.

So here are some things I want you to do to remember when you are trying to be the best you can be.

-You will see the best results when you have six consecutive on-program days every week

-One Cheat Meal and dessert a week

-Exercise is amazing, but only if your food is amazing as well. You can’t eat more because you’re exercising, not when you’re trying to lose weight.

-Stop making excuses. You are only hurting yourself.

The bottom line is if you want to be amazing, look amazing and feel amazing, then you have to put the work in. You have to follow your program, you have to be a little hungry and you have to want this more than anything. Temptation will always be in sight, but you have to be stronger than what’s in front of you. You have to look at yourself and visualize. What do you want in two weeks from today? Where do you want to be? Where do you want to be in four weeks from today? Two months from today? Every weight loss day is one day closer to the person you want to be.

You can only fight the addictions, the habits and the poor choices if you recognize. You have them, so own them and move on from them. If you have been amazing, then continue to be amazing, and if you’ve not done the right things to make yourself happy, then start today and make yourself happy. Make it happen. You are the only person who has control over your happiness, just like you are the only person who has control over being unhappy. We have the same control to be happy as unhappy. It’s always in our choices. You are the only person who can get in your own way today. So make it happen. Don’t be a talker, be a doer. You can do this if you really want it.

Okay, that’s all I have for now. I want to tell you in two weeks from now, we will have another fabulous story from one of our successful weight loss clients. I can’t wait for you to hear her journey. So please make sure you subscribe to the podcast, because if you subscribe, then you will immediately get notified every time we have a new show, so you don’t have to keep checking. Subscribe. Give it a thumbs up. It helps the program, it helps you. It’s a great way to find all our shows and be notified immediately. I want to thank you all for joining me and listening to the Love to Live Healthy show. I’m wishing you all a happy, healthy week full of love. Hugs from me to all of you.

MARCH MANTRA – I WANT TO LOVE THE BODY I LIVE IN

PODCAST – TRANSCRIPT

SPEAKER (Josephine)

Hi everyone, welcome to the Love to Live Healthy show. I’m Josephine Fitzpatrick. Today’s topic is Hello, March, and our March Mantra is I want to love the body I live in. What I want you to do is I want you to start March feeling in control and feeling positive, reminding yourself that any wall that is put up you will break down with confidence and strength, because this is what you want and no one is going to take it away from you.

On a Monday, we always feel great and we are always ready for a weight loss week, but by Wednesday we tend to feel exhausted and overwhelmed. We end up having a lunch out or dinner out. We go off plan a little bit and then, before you know it, we say, “ah, we’re off plan”, might as well just keep going off. We have to remember if we want the best results, we have to stick to our program six days a week. Yes, of course, if you go off program, one of the best things about the Innovation program is you get right back on and you keep moving forward. But remember, every day is either going to be a weight loss day, a maintain day or a weight gain day, and only you are in control of those results. You need six weight loss days to see the best results.

Watch your weekends. Friday is a day we can start to be tempted to go off our path. When you are tempted, I want you to remind yourself that every time you take a step back means you have to make up that step first and then start losing weight again. So you have to think to yourself is it worth it? 99% of the time it’s not worth it and you will look back and you’ll think why did I waste all my hard work on a weak moment? Be a little hungry, look for the little hunger and embrace the hunger. It only takes two weeks to replace a bad habit with a good habit. So push yourself through the next two Fridays. Stay 100% clean on program and the scale will reward you fabulously. I want you to stay positive and remember how important your goals are to you. Think about how happy you are when you do the right thing and you live the program. Embrace that feeling. It makes you happy. You feel amazing on program. So stay focused. Fridays are fun and exciting when we’re entering the weekend, but when it comes to food, they are still Fridays and you must be on program if you want to see and feel the best results.

Some motivating goals. Short-term goal where do you want to be by April 1st? That gives you a month. You could lose one pound a week. That would be four or five pounds. It’s five weeks in March, so that would be five pounds. You could lose two pounds a week. That could be eight or 10 pounds. More importantly, where do you want to be 4th of July? Okay, that’s 20 weeks. I just recently did a video the other day that said for March 1st to July 4th is 20 weeks. If you lose the very least one pound a week, you will see 20 pounds of weight loss by July 4th. That is amazing and so worth putting in the time.

One pound a week doesn’t sound like a lot, but when you get to 4th of July and you look back and you are 20 pounds lighter, it’s going to mean everything. That one pound a week is going to mean everything. And one pound a week is very doable. It doesn’t matter what you have going on. It’s not even going to make you feel that hungry because you are  not giving up that much for one pound a week. Commit, follow it and you will look back and be so happy you did.

Okay, listen, there will always be some kind of hurdle that is in your path and in your way. Social plans, stress, tired, even happiness can make you weak and overeat. Stay strong and jump these hurdles, because that is what’s going to take you to where you want to be. Mental strength is where your focus has to be. Remember and remind yourself daily what you want and how important it is to you. How do you want to feel on your next vacation or how do you want to feel this summer? Right now, you have the control to determine your results, but every day that passes will be one less day you have. I promise you, every hurdle you get over will help your next hurdle be even easier than the one before. Keep moving forward.

Work hard every day and remind yourself, when you are in the face of temptation, that there is no better feeling than feeding your body less and losing weight. Being comfortable in your own skin and being in control when you stay on program, especially in the most challenging of times, is when you will get the best results. If you speak to any of my clients, they will tell you yes, of course, staying to your meals and snacks is hard. Doing the five hour fast is hard. The detox is hard, eating less is hard, but as soon as you go off program, that is so much harder. So choose your hard.

Is it harder to be doing the right thing, feeling good, or is it harder to be off program, knowing I’m eating more but I don’t feel great? You immediately feel the loss of control and you will immediately feel thicker and bloated. You don’t want to do that. When you are on program, you’re not only losing weight, you’re losing body fat and that is why even one pound a week feels so good. So stay on program, stay mentally and physically strong and I promise you this spring and summer you will be ready for all the exciting plans you have, all the vacations, the graduations and beach days and, most important, you will feel good and you will love the body you live in. I hope this helps. I’m wishing everyone a beautiful, happy, healthy week. Much love and hugs from me to all of you.

JOSEPHINE

Well, it’s great to see you Susan, you too. So we’re on the Love to Live Healthy show, and I have a very special guest, Susan Parker, who is one of our biggest success stories. Hi, Susan, So tell us. Tell what’s your total weight loss?

SUSAN

I think around 53 pounds, 54 pounds

JOSEPHINE

WOW, that is amazing. So proud of you

SUSAN

Thank you.

JOSEPHINE

You are so tiny now! So what I love about your story is so many things. But the first one I still remember is when you first started. And actually we didn’t meet in person at the time because you started online. And you told me that your husband didn’t want you to do the program. Tell us about that.

SUSAN

Well, I was a lifetime member of Weight Watchers at 12 years old, so I have been unsuccessfully dieting forever. I’m now a senior, so it’s been lifelong. And my husband and I have been together since we were in college and he saw me. You know all my ups and downs as I tried new things and you know you try something and you’re all excited and then it works for a while and you’re all excited and then eventually, no matter what program I was on, the weight would start coming back and I would get so upset and so depressed and he didn’t want to see me go through that kinds of anxiety. We have been married a long time we have 3 kids so he has been through it all with me.

JOSEPHINE

54 LBS LATER! He is happy you did it.

You started with the regular innovation program. Then towards the end, where you thought like you would never go past a number – I think at the time it was like 125 or something, but it was a time you would never thought you’d go past it

SUSAN

It was 130. I lost all he weight and we couldn’t get past 130

JOSEPHINE

And then you started with the detox AND the five hour and that really got you to a weight you have never been at in your life, right?.

SUSAN

Right, I’m the lowest weight in my adult life.

JOSEPHINE

Wow, that’s amazing. You really did really good. And you always lived the program. Because when we got you to the 130 you were there for a long time and you were happy but we both thought with your height and weight and body frame you could even go lower. And we were right.

SUSAN

Yeah, yeah, long time. I thought 130 was my goal, weight, I mean. I never really had in my mind a number that was a goal weight because I never knew what my body was capable of being. Right. So I was at 130 and I felt, you know, good, yeah. And then, um, although I wanted to be lower, I was happy. . But now, if went back to 130 I would be very upset. (Laughing)

JOSEPHINE

It’s funny how that happens. But the truth is and I see it all the time. You don’t realize how much you had to lose until you lose it and you see your body now and how healthy you are. Like right now 54lbs later you are at a very healthy weight and like we said, you looked great at 130. So if you would have stayed there you would have been happy but you kept working hard and where you are now is where your body should be. We can see that from your health and how you look.

And that was another what? 15 lbs from the 130?

SUSAN

Yes,15 pounds, no I actually lost 17 lbs more from the 130.

JOSEPHINE

That’s incredible. One thing I really love about that is you really have learned to enjoy your life like this.

SUSAN

You know I have never been healthier. I rarely, if ever get sick, knock on wood, and my doctor is a real fan of my diet and all you do, and everything I accomplished. attended, and you know it’s just a

JOSEPHINE

I think it had a lot to do with always planning. Which is really important, which I think you were always so good at, you know, really, even from going out to dinner to staying on your five hour, and even planning your cheat day.

SUSAN

 yeah, I always did

I mean now that I am maintaining I have more flexibility.  My cheat day has always been like my most sacred day. My kids will even say to me, like, if we’re going out to dinner, is this your cheat day? (Laughing)

JOSEPHINE

I think, when anyone has such a challenge of losing and sticking to a program, I really believe the cheat day is something that helps you. You know it’s that. It’s the light at the end of the week. It really helps keep you on program.

But you did it and you always consistently lost.

SUSAN

and I’m a very slow loser. Probably because I dieted my whole life and then with menopause.

JOSEPHINE

Everyone does do it at different rates. You know I have so many people who lose fast and so many who lose slow.

I have one client right now who she’s going to do a podcast in a couple of weeks with me and she literally lost a pound a week. She’s lost 25 pounds. She reached her goal, she looks amazing, but it was a pound a week and there were weeks where it was nothing, and you know those are the weeks where you got to go on. The most important thing is that you just have to just keep moving forward.

Which brings me to my next question, what would your advice be for someone who’s trying to lose weight and gets frustrated?

SUSAN

Well, Planning.  It’s almost nine years later. I started in 2015 and I still know every single morning what I’m going to be eating that day. Still, to this day. Um, I still look up restaurant menus before I go out. I’m not as nervous that there won’t be something I can eat, you know, because I’m on maintenance, so I have a little bit more flexibility, but I still always know what my meals are going to be and what I’m bringing with me, if anything.

Where ever I go I always know I’m going to be eating, and so that sense of you know control makes It feel possible. If you plan you will never be without even if you have to bring something on your own.

JOSEPHINE

Planning is key. It’s one less thing you have to think about and worry about, because you know what you’re going to be doing and eating. And I do agree having the control over your day is the most important thing you can do for yourself.

SUSAN

Absolutely it is. You know I used to, as you remember, always be afraid I was going to run out of food, so I never left the house without, like you know, an on program snack. And you know, now, now I don’t have that worry anymore, so I know that I can always find something. But you know, even when I flew down on my last trip to Florida, I left my snack at home by accident. And It’s a three hour flight, I thought I can wait until I get there.

But I bought a bag of skinny pop, and I bought one of those think bars just to have it even though I knew I wasn’t going to eat it. And I’m laughing at myself because you pay more money for those at the airport and I knew I wasn’t going to eat it on the plane.

JOSEPHINE

But you just mentally needed to have it on you just in case.

SUSAN

Yes, I mentally needed it. Even though I wasn’t eating it

JOSEPHINE

That is preparing even when you aren’t prepared. Just in case you wanted something, you wanted to stay on program so you made sure you would have something and not be tempted with anything on the plane. I think that’s the discipline that you have learned through this whole thing.

JOSEPHINE

Well, I have to say you are a sexy looking grandma.

SUSAN

Oh, (laughing) thank you. I owe it all to you. You know, and that’s an advice I would give to people on the program too, they need to reach out to you. That was key for me. I mean, I miss not reaching out to you all the time now.

I found that when I texted you my food every day. Then it I was done, you know, we planned what I was eating, and once I ate it and I said what I was going to eat and I accounted for it, and it’s just, it frees up so much of your energy and so much of your brain. When that’s just one less thing that you need, it’s done, I texted it off. It felt so good.

JOSEPHINE

Yes, you text it and you are done. And you knew that was it. You were not eating after that.

I love that and honestly you ate majority of all innovation food for a long time. I remember reading what you wrote each night (laughing). Now you’re in Florida and we don’t see you as much in the store, we miss you.

SUSAN

But I have a whole freezer full of Innovation food in my Florida house. I bring it all on my carry on bag which goes through TSA. The whole bag it’s all just innovation food.

JOSEPHINE

I love that. I really believe it helps clients stay on program. It really does, and that’s just another part of the control. It really helps when you know that you can eat food you love and still lose weight, which I always. I preach that because I think that’s so important. I’d rather eat less and love what I’m eating than eat more and be, you know, bored or disappointed in what I’m having. You need to look forward to your food.

SUSAN

I do believe that’s such a big part of how I lost this and kept it off for so long.

JOSEPHINE

You lost majority of it in the first year. and then it took us a while because we really needed to figure out how to get those last 17 lbs off. I actually just said this in my last podcast it’s why I created the five hour and the detox because, you get to a point where you’re like kind of stuck, you were happy at 130, but we knew you could go more.

You wanted more and we need to attack those resistant last 17lbs.

SUSAN

And we did. I always did whatever you gave me. Even before the detox and the five hour, we had all those various restrictive menus. Like you were so great at always changing up the menus and there were some weeks when I would look at this menu. I’m like is she kidding? I thought she must be going to sleep at night and thinking of ways to torture her clients. (Laughing)

JOSEPHIINE

That’s so funny but so true. I always say when my ears are ringing it’s my clients. (Laughing)

SUSAN

But the truth is those kind of menus are for only a brief time that I had to stay on them. So I would look at it and you’re like you know what it’s four days. I could do this for four days and it really always helped, it always helped move the weight loss along. You were always so good at that. Changing up the menus every time I needed it to keep everything moving and keep it all interesting. It really helped.

JOSEPHINE

It does help mentally and physically, because it also shrinks your appetite, and your stomach.

SUSAN

You know it really did. It was all those little extra things, not even just the amount that changed but it also helped so much mentally helped me eat less.

JOSEPHINE

Yes, I agree. I just had a client in here and she really did a number to herself over the holidays and now i of course we’re focusing on the weight loss, but for me I’m focusing on her just to get her to shrink her appetite again, because you know, how it goes.. you have to shrink your appetite first and the weight loss will follow, you know.

SUSAN

Yeah, I do notice that with the five hour fasts and I don’t know if other clients feel this, I’m sure they have. But I could go without eating for a long time. I drink tons of water, but now I can go for a long time without food when I want too, but once I start eating I feel like I’m very hungry.

JOSEPHINE

Right, yes, yes, and actually that happens no matter what time you start eating. If you are doing the 5 hour or not. I have clients tell me that are not even on the five hour, but they say I won’t even start eating until lunch, beccause if I eat breakfast I’m hungry all day. The hunger signals get activated and it’s hard to turn them off.

SUSAN

Yeah, it’s like your brain is immediately looking for more once you start eatiing.

JOSEPHINE

But if you don’t feed it, you’re okay. A lot of it is the mental part of weight loss. I always say it’s 90% mental because once we do that and we we feel like we can’t stop eating, it’s because we’ve activated that in our brain and we’re like, okay, now I’m eating, you know what’s next, what’s next. So I think that’s what a big part of the five hour is to get that sense of control, or the detox, like you’re controlling yourself again, and you are controlling your appetitie. You are realizing I don’t need that much food,

SUSAN

Exaclty, you realize I don’t need as much as I’m eating.

JOSEPHINE

Yes, you realize you are eating just to eat and not because you are actually hugnry.

SUSAN

right, right, so you’re surprised you know, and I also now I try whenever possible the day before my cheat day to do a detox day with the fasting. It makes me feel better for cheat day. And you know I love to see my happy number.

JOSEPHINE

I know, I know you do and that’s good. There is nothing wrong with that

SUSAN

So you figure out ways that that help you mentally to get through, and it’s mentally, because you know, honestly, if you get on the scale and it’s up a pound, at the end of the day you still look the same

JOSEPHINE

Exactly, I say it all the time. It a pound up but nobody knows but you,

SUSAN

Yes, nobody knows but you.

JOSEPHINE

Well, I thank you. Thank you, thank you for doing this. It’s so inspiring to people when they see what someone’s capable of. You know and you did it. You did amazing and you feel amazing. You look amazing

SUSAN

Oh, thank you. Yeah, no, I feel fantastic and I get a lot of compliments and when I show people my before picture they’re like whoa, that was you. Yeah.

JOSEPHINE

That’s awesome. I love that. We’re going to try to get that up on do your before and after when we post this video, which I think will be so fun. Again, thank you so much

SUSAN

Oh, you’re very welcome . It was such a so nice to see you.

Thank you everyone for joining the Love to Live Healthy Show. We will see you all next week.

KETOVATION

SO EXCITED ON ALL THE FEEDBACK

ON THE KETOVATION PROGRAM! [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]

Here are some helpful Q&A[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]

KETOVATION[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]

What Is It:  Ketovation –   Very Low Carbohydrate, High Healthy Fat, Medium Protein diet – Cycled with weeks of Innovation- Low Calorie,  Low Fat Low/Medium Carbohydrate,, High Protein diet.[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]

How does it work: The Ketovation diet forces your body to alternate it’s fuel sources between ketones and glucose.  Two weeks the Ketovation diet relies on the liver to break down stored fat into molecules called ketones. As carbs are reduced the fat is increased, the body enters a metabolic state called ketosis.  [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]

When you are on Ketovation your body will be in ketosis – it will take from stored fat on your body to use as energy – creating faster and significant weight loss results right from the start.  [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]

We have learned through our Ketovation cycling – we are increasing our long term weight loss results on Ketovation. When we do 2 weeks of Ketovation then cycle in Healthy Carbohydrate days – the cycling increases your metabolism helping the body to react continuously to the ketosis. Producing faster, and continuous weight loss. Another added benefit is clients have an easier time both mentally and physically of staying on the program because while you are cycling in your Innovation healthy carbohydrate, low fat, high protein days – you are seeing faster and continuous weight loss making it more doable to stick to the program overall. [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]

*The most important thing is you have to be 100% the first two weeks of Ketovation with no Hiccups.

With the Holiday’s approaching plan accordingly. [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]

*INNOVATION: Low Fat 5%; Low/Medium Carbohydrate 25-30%; High Protein 65%.

*KETOVATION: High Healthy Fat 70%, Very Low Carbohydrate 5%, Medium Protein 25%

There are 4 Different Ways to do Ketovation: (Choose one)[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]

Muscle vs. Fat vs. Exercise, Water, Stress = Scale

[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]So you’ve been exercising and continually eating on program only to step on the scale and find out that you’ve gained a few pounds. It’s okay. I know your immediate thoughts: “why am I gaining weight?” and “How am I gaining weight for that matter?” Then you think “let me text Josephine” 🙂  While it can be easy to let a higher number on the scale screw with your head (especially if you feel you’ve been doing all the “right” things), it isn’t cause for panic. [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]It’s been such a topic of discussion on weight, exercise, water intake, stress, muscle vs. fat. So what I have decided to do is explain how each affect your body and I will follow it up with a video and podcast for further clarification. [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]HERE ARE FEW REASONS WHY EVEN WHEN YOU ARE SHRINKING YOUR NUMBER CAN BE HIGHER. [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]WEIGHT TRAINING:  Weight training can cause weight gain due to an increase in muscle mass. If you strength train regularly and improve your fitness level, your weight on the scale may increase while your body fat percentage decreases. Muscle is denser than fat and takes up more space. So even though a pound is a pound – meaning whether it’s a pound of fat, feathers, sand or muscle a pound is always going to weigh a pound. HOWEVER, when you lose body fat and you replace it with 2x as much muscle you can actually be smaller and weigh more because fat takes up more room then muscle. So while I never discourage weight training I always tell clients you have to be okay with the number going up if you are weight training. [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]MUSCLE VS. FAT:  Muscle is smaller and denser than fat. A great example is to take your leg (thigh) or stomach. . Fat is mushy and spreads and is loose and takes up more room. So if you have flabby thighs or a flabby belly with muffin tops you have lots of fat cells stored there. Now you are eating on program, you are exercising and building muscle. While you are building muscle you are decreasing your body fat and your cells are closing (fat cells never go away they just close and make more space either to just be thinner or they are making more space for muscle). Just like you can keep growing fat cells and get heavier and heavier you can do the same with muscle and build muscle in that area. But because muscle is smaller and denser your weight will be the same but you will look totally different – smaller and leaner.  You can fit 2x more muscle in the same space as fat and it will still look smaller because it’s dense.[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]FOOD AND EXERCISE: Important to remember when you exercise and you are trying to lose weight you don’t eat more. It’s a very hard concept especially when you are hungrier from exercising more. Your reward is how you look it’s not to eat more because you exercised. One of the most common things I see when when a client uses a workout as a green light to eat whatever they want. Sometimes when you have an intense sweat session or you push yourself in a new way, you can look to food as a reward for a hard workout completed. I have had clients come to me and say I did double workouts or I worked out for hours. I always say “why?” Of course you want to work out and stay healthy and look and feel good but unless you are a professional athlete you don’t need to be working out for hours. What you need is your hour of exercise everyday and to eat on program and you will get the best results. In fact most of the clients who complain that they are doing double workouts or are in the gym for hours are those who are also complaining they are not losing weight – and that is mostly because they are eating more than they should as a reward for working out. Your body needs fuel, but an intense workout is not a license to eat whatever or as much as you want. The best results is when you are eating on program and exercising – that combination is all it takes to look and feel your best.[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]WATER WEIGHT: Water makes up approximately 65 to 90 percent of a person’s weight, and variation in water content of the human body can move the scale by ten pounds or more from day to day. That’s right water can alter your weight by as much as 10 pounds. Sounds like a lot? It’s not. Great example my boys who weight train heavy regularly – they never care what the scale says, in fact the higher the better because to them they are gaining muscle and that’s what they want. Along with that they walk around with a gallon jug of water, and they continually fill it as soon as it’s empty. So of course you can be up to 10 pounds higher when you are drinking large amounts of water constantly throughout the day. *You should be drinking at least half of your body weight in water each day and even more if you are having serious workouts or running long distance. [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]However for most of us it’s about 3-4lb water weight, so if you think you just lost a few pounds from that serious spin class? Don’t get too excited — it’s likely just water loss due to sweat. And if you’re seeing a higher number on the scale, that could be due to water retention from drinking the water throughout the day. The amount of H20 in your system has a heavy influence on your weight and could be the answer to the question, “why do I gain weight so easily?”  Your body will always fluctuate do to water. So no matter what, stay hydrated all day. At the end of the day it’s good for you body, weight loss, skin, and over all health.[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]Water Fluctuation: If you are not weight training generally your weight will always fluctuate at least 3 lbs from water. However you will also notice that if you are not weight training and only doing cardio then each week you have a new low number even with the water weight (so even with the water weight you should be lower than the week before depending on how much water you are holding). So while mid-week it might seem higher by the time you weigh in you should see a new low number even if you are still holding a little water. Depending on how much water you are holding can determine the 1-3 lb loss. Example: you started at 200 but lost 5 lbs and now 195. Mid week you will see anywhere between 195-197 (that is the 3lb fluctuation) but you won’t see the 200 because your new low is 195. And that will continue as you lose weight. So when you get to 180 from the 200. You new low will be 180 but it can fluctuate up to 183. My point is you should always give yourself 3lbs higher for the weight to fluctuate with water. Some will be higher than 3lbs but as a rule I always tell clients give yourself at least 3lbs. With that said understand that if last week your new low was 175 and you lost another 3lbs this week you may only see 1lb loss on the scale because you are holding 3lbs of water which would means you will see 174 but you are really 172. [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]Water & No Exercise: For those of you that are not exercising at all then it’s a whole different story and it could take you longer to see results. As we age our bodies run slower so we need exercise to help it run properly. When you have no exercise and sitting all day is like a slow death. You are not burning anything your body is existing and it will take twice as long to see the weight loss. So while you may have lost 1lb this week you may be the same or even higher with no exercise (depending on your age) because if you are 150 but lost 2lbs but are holding 3lbs of water weight you are going to read 1lb higher when you are actually 1lb lower. If you stick to it you will eventually see the weight go down even when holding the 3lbs of water but it will take longer. That’s why I always tell you at the very least go for a long walk. Do something to get your body moving.  [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]Water & Weight Training: If you are weight training then you won’t see a new low but you will be smaller in size. When you are building muscle and holding water it could take weeks to see the number go down even though your body is shrinking. If you are weight training you can actually see a 5lb or more weight gain (not in a week but over time).  Because you are replacing muscle with fat so that could be 1- 2 lbs and then you have the water weight and that is 1-3 lbs addition to the muscle. But at the end of the day if you can handle the number on the scale you always look better overall and will be smaller overall if you weight train. Unless of course you are body building then you will be bigger but it will be all muscle and you will still be happy. If you are struggling with understanding this – I plan to follow it up with a video and podcast for clarification.[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]STRESS: Stress can cause weight gain. When you are under stress from tough workouts or a tough day, or lack of sleep, your body produces the stress hormone cortisol. More cortisol released in the body can cause fluid retention and inflammation. Make sure you plan some downtime to do the things that recharge you mentally and physically. Be sure to take a recovery day during your workout week, so you are not over-exerting your body. Rest days and cheat days are just as important as clean on program eating and exercise days.[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]WEIGHING: While weighing yourself can be one way to track your progress, it shouldn’t be the only way. And it certainly isn’t worth obsessing over with daily weigh-ins. Remember losing pounds on the scale does not mean that you are more fit — it just means you are lighter at that moment, which doesn’t mean much at all especially if it’s water weight. And keep in mind that if you’re exercising but gaining weight, it could be that your workouts are effective and you are just gaining more muscle then you had in fat. One of the best ways to track your progress is your clothes. I ask clients all the time how are your clothes fitting you. That is the key to seeing your results because it’s not just that they fit you but that you look and feel good in them. Because you can be in tight pants at 125lbs and be made up of mostly loose fat but when you are working out everyday and you are muscle you can weigh 135lbs and those same pants are loose on you or fitting you perfect. So it’s not always about the scale it’s the combination of what you are doing weight training, cardio, water, eating on program and stress. [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]NUMBERS: So if you are a numbers person and need to see the number drop on the scale each week then you should wait to weight train until you reach your goal. Keep your stress in check and do a cardio session before you weigh in to release any water you are holding in your body. [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]CLOTHES: If you are okay with the number fluctuating and are okay with tracking your progress with your clothes and how you look and feel, then eat clean on program, incorporate the weight training sessions, drink your water -but always continue to keep your stress in check. Progress: once a month put on a piece of clothing (pants, shorts, bathing suit) and at the same time weigh yourself. See how the difference in the scale matches up with how your clothes are fitting you from the month before. You will be pleasantly surprised with the results. [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]
[dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]Final Thoughts: Keep your motivation up, stay positive and continue on your path and do the right things. This will always keep you in the right direction. Whether you are looking for muscle, fit, thin and/or lean  — when you are happy, healthy and confident you can have success and look amazing in any healthy body. [dt_sc_hr_invisible_small]

THE PATH TO YOUR SUCCESS INCLUDES CHOICES

 [dt_sc_clear]
YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES TO CONTROL YOUR MIND OR LET YOUR MIND CONTROL YOU. Life is all about making choices, and when it comes to weight loss it’s even more important to think things through before we do them. While it’s very easy to grab, eat and regret – the success comes when you plan prepare and follow through.
[dt_sc_clear]
[dt_sc_clear]
HALLOWEEN CHOICES:  Halloween Week can be an easy time to let your mind control you. Especially when you decide to buy candy early. Remember they are out on the shelves early because the stores are well aware that you will buy them and then eat them and then come back and buy more. This can happen multiple times before Halloween even arrives. Don’t fall into that trap – wait and buy the day before. Yes the candies are adorable but they are the same little chocolate bars you can buy anytime of the year they just have little wrapper costumes on to make them look more appetizing at Halloween season. Wait until the night before to buy them.
 [dt_sc_clear]
MIND CHOICES:  it’s so important for you to control your mind and thoughts and keep them mentally strong. Because when we are mentally strong we feel like we can accomplish anything. We force ourselves to do the right thing and control what we want and who we become. Regardless of how much temptation is around us we choose to be healthy and happy and stay that way. We wake in the morning with the 100% intention to be positive, feel amazing and do the right things. Day and night our mental strength controls our actions and our actions control our thoughts to stay happy, healthy and fit. But this will only take place if you make the effort everyday to control your mind and thoughts and keep them both in a healthy positive place. When you put the extra effort in — your mind and body rewards you with results.
 [dt_sc_clear]
FEEL GOOD CHOICES: Each week you work so hard to get to where you want to be. It’s hard and challenging but what choice do you have. This is life. Some days will be easier and some days harder, but the most important thing is for you to understand that you need to stay on your path and on program because that is when you feel your best and that is when you lose the weight. Here are some things I want you to think of this week:
[dt_sc_clear]
  • When you are on program and it’s challenging you have to remember how good you feel. Yes the temptation is there but you are losing and you feel good that is more important then any cheat that is in front of you.
  • What is the alternative? You are off program – eating out of control and the whole time you keep thinking “I have to get back on program” meanwhile you are gaining the entire time you are contemplating going back on. Why even put yourself through that? Why even put the people you love through that? If you think about it – it’s just so much easier to stay on program, it’s so much easier to do the right thing and lose the weight. Because when you are not on all you want to do is be on.
  • You are just so much happier when you are in control and doing the right thing! Think about it. Even though it’s hard. Even though it’s challenging. Even though you have to talk yourself into making the right choices every day 6 days a week – it makes you so much happier when you do it.
 [dt_sc_clear]
YOUR PATH TO SUCCESS is a choice only you can make: You need to make the choice that weight loss is what you want and you are willing to work hard for it. Every day 6 days a week and when you work hard for what you want and don’t let anything in your path stop you — is when you will get it. Remind yourself daily that you are sticking to your program and doing the right things because it gives you a healthy mind and body, it makes you happy and it makes you look and feel amazing. The consistency of Living “six” on and “one” off is your path to success but it will only happen when you make it a priority in your life and that priority has to be everyday not just on the days that is convenient for you. There is no excuse you can find around you and no food on the table that is better than feeling good, being in control being happy and looking great. Your path to success is the choice to walk away from temptation and stay on your path. Because staying on your path is what will lead you to success both mentally and physically. Don’t make it harder than it is. Just follow your program and you will feel great.
 [dt_sc_clear]
Making the right choices is never easy. We speak to our children about it all the time. We tell them – Do the right thing. Make the right choices. And always remember what you do and the choices you make everyday affects everyone in your family and all the people that love you. When it comes to weight loss and health we are no different. We need to remember and live by that same advice.

READY FOR THANKSGIVING

It’s so hard to believe Thanksgiving is almost here.  This can be a very stressful and very social time where healthy eating and staying on track can take a backseat.  Kids are off from school, students coming home from college, some are going on vacations, and of course the beginning of shopping and planning for the holiday season.  These next few weeks can go two different ways as the days go by in the blink of an eye and then all of a sudden the New Year is here.  You can stay healthy and in control, or you can let it all go and have to start all over in January.  You have choices, and we will help you stick to the right choice that works for you.

OPTIONS for Thanksgiving Week:

If you keep it to one cheat day you will get the very best results— however, you have to be realistic in what works for you this coming weekend.  If you need to split your cheat days and maintain the week that is totally fine.  Whether you decide one cheat day or spitting the cheat day the most important thing is you have a plan and stick to what you decide.   TIP:    We all want to be perfect and be sharks, but we also know what we are capable of and if it’s a turtle weekend and you need to split the days then that is the plan you should follow.

ONLY ONE CHEAT DAY: (CHOOSE ONE)

  1. THANKSGIVING CHEAT DAY — Make Thanksgiving your Cheat Day.  A fun day to have a cheat day especially if you love the turkey and all the trimmings!  You stay clean all week and enjoy your Thanksgiving Cheat day and then you go right back on plan and no cheat day on the weekend.  Your next cheat day will be the weekend of December 7th.
  2. STAY CLEAN ON THANKSGIVING AND HAVE YOUR REGULAR CHEAT DAY ON THE WEEKEND — It won’t be easy to sit and watch the stuffing or your favorite side dish being passed around the table, but in order to stick to your routine and keep your momentum, some of you will choose to stay clean and on program Thanksgiving Day and do your normal Cheat Day Thanksgiving Weekend.  It’s very possible to do, and it’s a great option for this week and it will help keep you in  a good place going forward this winter and holiday season.  *Make sure you check wherever you are eating Thanksgiving day that they have options that will help you stay on.  Turkey and vegetables are always easy and maybe bring a fruit platter so you can have your dessert ready for you.

SPLIT THE CHEAT DAY

  1. If you are okay with maintaining this week you have the option of splitting your cheat day.  If you know you are having a very social weekend this is probably the most realistic for you — Choose 2 days and stay clean all day and only cheat dinner/drinks/dessert.   So if you choose Thanksgiving— you will do clean  on program breakfast and lunch and then do Cheat dinner/drinks/dessert.   Then you pick another day on the weekend and do the same thing.  The remaining days should be 100% on program.  This give you the option to enjoy, be social and also feel good and stay on program.

Choosing the option is easy – Sticking to it is what is truly important.  Don’t make this weekend a four day eating marathon.  Because I promise you every year there are clients who lose it and go down hill with no breaks and it’s 4 days- 10lbs later.  It’s not the turkey or thanksgiving — it’s the starting Wednesday night and not stopping until Sunday.  It’s a very social and indulging weekend — you want to enjoy stay in control and feel good throughout.  Stay mindful – have your plan and stick to it.

MONDAY MORNING COMES FAST!

Think about how you want to feel Friday, Saturday and Sunday?  Most important how do you want to feel Monday morning?

THERE WILL BE TWO SCENARIOS COME MONDAY MORNING:

  1. You will open your eyes Monday morning and be so super happy you stayed on program and did the right things and followed exactly what you had planned.  You will get out of bed and get dressed and you will feel so good both mentally and physically that you accomplished what you planned for your weekend.  You will be so ready to start the week in such a good place.  You will feel like Tiger and it will show in every hop skip and jump you take that morning —right into your closet to get dressed.
  2. OR you will open your eyes and wonder what was going on inside of your head all weekend.  You promised yourself you wouldn’t do this again and yet here you are.  You will then drag yourself out of bed like Eeyore “always me” and wonder how you are going to squeeze into your work clothes OR workout clothes and think where you went wrong and how did you get to this place.  Then you will try and justify it by promising yourself that you will starve all week and workout 80hours minimum.  Knowing deep down that there is no justifying it and no getting around it because nothing you ate was worth how you are feeling.

Think about which one of the above you want for Monday Morning.  Everything you do is a choice you will make —  and our choices have consequences.   Remember you are free to make whatever choice you want but you are not free from the consequences of that choice.  If you do the right things and make the right choices — yes there will be moments that it will feel difficult through the weekend but  I promise you will be so happy Monday morning with the results.

THE CHOICES YOU MAKE TODAY

WILL DETERMINE YOUR DIRECTION TOMORROW

Yom Kippur – Have a Plan

Today at Sundown begins Yom Kippur the holiest day of the year — for those who observe it’s the day on which we are closest to G-d and to the quintessence of our own souls.  It is the day of Atonement — be forgiven and cleansed from all your sins before G-d.

For nearly twenty-six hours — from several minutes before sunset tonight to after nightfall tomorrow — we “afflict our souls”:  we abstain from food and drink, and head to temple and our time is spent in prayer to G-d.  It’s truly a beautiful holiday.

For those of you who fast, it’s a great time to give your weight loss a boost as well.  Your last meal today should be a nice balance of protein and healthy carbohydrates and this combination will sustain you throughout the fast.  Some great choices would be:

  • Grilled or roasted chicken (no skin)
  • Vegetables – Green Beans, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Asparagus.
  • Mashed Sweet Potato – no milk or cream
  • Fresh fruit

Water, water, water throughout the day today.  You should never wait until you are thirsty to drink water.   Once you are thirsty you are already dehydrated and when you are dehydrated you will feel hunger.  You should drink water all day when you are NOT thirsty to avoid dehydration.

Let’s Talk Breaking the Fast:  If you don’t cheat after the fast you will actually use the fast to your benefit. It will be a great addition to your weight loss.  After the fast you should start with a small on program snack and a bottle of water.  Then follow it by an on program meal.  Some examples:  Skagel or ezekiel bread with lox and light cream cheese; Light Tuna or Chicken salad with ak mak,  wasa or Innovation flax  crackers; vegetables and hummus; roasted chicken or fish with vegetable side.  If you really want to stay on program it’s very doable.  There will be a lot of temptation at the table so the results are all going to be about what you want when you step on the scale Saturday not what you want tomorrow.

PLAN AHEAD:  If you planned on cheating tomorrow then I am going to assume you saved your cheat day from this past weekend for tomorrow.  But if you didn’t save it and you decided you want to cheat tomorrow then I would simply skip this coming weekend cheat day.   It’s one or the other. You can’t have 3 cheat days in one week and lose weight.   Make the choice and stick to it.

Very Important – don’t cheat tomorrow and say you are going to skip this weekend cheat day and then you don’t skip it.  Because we all know where that will have you end up – yikes 🙁

Final thoughts:  You should only be breaking the fast if you actually fasted.  If you are not fasting because of medicine, not religious, you just can’t do it- or don’t want to do it… then you should be sticking 110% on program, and eating clean on program food.

Whether you are having a cheat day or deciding to stay clean on program – plan it and follow through.  I think especially on such a holy holiday it’s really important to stick to whatever you plan.  You don’t want to end the holiday and start the New Year beating yourself up because of  the decisions you made and how they made you feel.  If you are cheating then enjoy it and if you are staying on program enjoy it.

Don’t always base your decisions on what is in front of you.  Think about and base your decisions on how you will feel at the end of the night – how you will feel tomorrow getting dressed and how you will feel when you step on the scale this weekend.

Whatever you decide— have your plan and stick to it.  Because the most important thing is owning it, — accepting it and enjoying every second on it.

Atone for the sins of the past year and learn from those sins

so that you can be a better person for the year ahead.

Innovation Weight Loss wishes you all a healthy, peaceful and fulfilling year.

G’mar Hatimah Torah
