Passover Week

This Monday April 10th marks the first night of Passover. This week long holiday is a celebration of freedom in the Jewish faith, with traditions including celebratory meals and symbolic foods and restrictions. This can be a tough time for many of us, trying to navigate the dietary changes, staying on program and also being faced with huge feasts. Many of you will choose one of the days this weekend as your Cheat Day, but as usual the celebrating will probably last for more than just one day. Now is the time to plan out your week, weekend and be ready to get back on track next week. Don’t let things surprise you – you should have your family dinners and holiday celebrations planned so there is no reason for you to be unprepared.

Some of us may be more restricted than others for the holiday, but it’s always possible find healthy and clean alternatives that fit into your Passover plans, such as these suggestions and recipes below.

MAINTAIN:

If you want to have a Cheat Meal on any of the nights of Passover then you must stay clean all day and only go off at night. If you choose this option you will have a Maintenance Week. All other days must be clean and on program. You can only do this if you give up your Cheat Day and replace it with cheat meals for the week.

Remember, when you go off at night it doesn’t mean you have to eat everything in sight. In fact, a great way to enjoy is to take a large spoonful of everything you like. This way you get to taste everything but you won’t over do it. Sometimes a taste is all you need to feel satisfied and not stuffed.

*If you are going away on a trip during the holiday week it might be best to plan to maintain to limit your confusion and stress. Many of us start a vacation with the best intentions but when we get there we can’t stay in control. Eat clean all day then treat yourself to one off meal, dessert OR drinks. If you do this you should give up your one Cheat Day and have only cheat meals throughout the week when you need them. REMEMBER: It’s a meal, dessert or drinks each day. Not all three. Choose what works for you and stick to it. You can still enjoy everything about your trip and be able to come back and get back on track. You can even switch it up each day and choose which option to cheat with (drinks one day, meal the next, etc.).

WEIGHT LOSS:

If you decide you want to keep this Passover Holiday a Weight Loss week then you must stick to only one day cheat day. On the remaining day(s) that you celebrate Passover you can incorporate some of the suggestions below to keep you on track and stay true to your holiday traditions.

Green Shakshuka

Shakshuka is a middle Eastern dish traditionally made with poached eggs in tomato sauce and spices. In this clean version, it features egg whites, onion, spinach and spices. Perfect breakfast option!

Ingredients:

•1 onion

•1 lb bag of spinach (fresh or frozen)

•1/2 tsp paprika

•1/2 tsp cinnamon

•1/2 tsp coriander

•2 tsp cumin

•Salt to taste

•1 tbsp oil

•Egg whites (depends on size of skillet)

1. Dice the onion.

2. Heat skillet and add onions and spices. Cook until onion is soft.

3. Add spinach and allow all to cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Make spaces in the spinach to hold the egg whites so they don’t run all over. Cook on low-medium heat until eggs are cooked thoroughly.

5. Remove skillet from heat and serve. 4 egg white is 1 meal serving.

Root Vegetable Medley

Bring together traditional root vegetables in this new way for an exciting and delicious festive dish.

Ingredients:

•2 red onions, diced

•2 cloves of garlic, chopped

•2 sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed

•1 lb carrots, cut into 1 inch pieces

•1 lb beets, peeled and cut into wedges

•1 lb celeriac, peeled and cubed

•Zest of 1 lemon

•Zest of 1 orange

•2 tbsp chopped fresh thyme

•2 tbsp chopped fresh savory

•1 tbsp chopped fresh tarragon

•Salt and pepper

•1/2 tsp ground coriander

•Cooking spray

1. Heat oven to 375 F and coat large casserole dish with cooking spray.

2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, spray with cooking spray then add onions and garlic. Sauté until soft and starting to brown, about 10 minutes.

3. Transfer this mixture to a large bowl then add sweet potatoes, carrots, beets, celeriac, lemon zest, orange zest, thyme, savory and tarragon. Season with salt and pepper and toss. Spoon into casserole dish.

4. Bake for 1 hour, or until vegetables are tender. 1/2 cup serving is one side.

Lemon Mousse

Ingredients:

•One 4-serving size package of Jell-O sugar free vanilla pudding mix

•2 cups skim milk

•1 packet Crystal Light Lemonade powdered drink mix (the size that makes 1 pitcher)

•One 12 oz container of low fat Cool Whip

1. Add pudding mix and milk into a medium bowl and beat until smooth and thick.

2. Beat in lemonade mix until combined.

3. Fold in Cool Whip.

4. Chill before serving. 1/2 cup serving is one dessert/snack.

CAN I HAVE MATZAH?

Yes!

Try 1/2 sheet original Matzah with 1 tbsp peanut butter (or sun nut butter if you cannot have peanuts) with or without 1 piece or 1 cup of fruit as a meal.

Matzah is only once a day and remember never eat just to eat. If you don’t need it, don’t eat it. You don’t want to end the night feeling bloated and sick. Like you over did it and you regret it. Instead, you want to end the holiday feeling amazing and in control. You will enjoy the food, but also what is really important – the company and the celebration.

Spring Holiday Prep

HOLIDAYS…. As we head into another Monday we look ahead and see Passover / Easter and Spring Break approaching fast. It’s only 2 weeks away and will be here before you know it. Whatever you do this is not the time to “WAIT” until after the Holiday/Break to get back on program. In two weeks you could lose 5lbs instead of gaining 10lbs. In two weeks you can feel a little lighter and healthier then you do today. What you have to do is just get right back on program or continue on your path… because when the Holiday and Break arrive you don’t want to feel bloated and heavy. You want to go into the Holidays feeling like you can enjoy without guilt. You can enjoy without worrying about adding pounds onto the extra weight you put on the last two weeks. Just don’t fall into the feelings of “I will just go back on program after the holiday” – wrong attitude! The right attitude – You should always be following. Even if you are busy and you are preparing and you know you will be cooking and baking more – you have to remember your first thought in the morning is to follow your program and you do it the very best you can each day. Always remember 80-20 is better than 50-50. And 4 great days with 2 not so great days and 1 cheat day is better than 7 straight “off” days or 7 straight “cheat days”. So even in your busiest time, with holidays, kids, and preparing – you always try to do your best everyday. While some weeks will be amazing and perfect others will be “okay” and that’s always better than “horrible.”

SCALE – IS THIS YOU? BE AWARE – of what you are doing and how it’s affecting you. Sometimes I see that clients go on the scale and they are amazed that it either went up or they didn’t lose. They will tell me that they had a hard challenging week and it was tough to stay on course or they know they had “off” days but they did the best they could. But then they step on the scale on “weigh in” day and they are disappointed that it didn’t go down. Like how the scale is going to reflect the stress and pressure you had on you the past week but it wouldn’t count in your weight because it feels bad for you. Just so we are all clear – the scale is not magic and doesn’t have feelings. It doesn’t care whether you had the most stressful challenging week – it doesn’t give you points for being a little good or better than you could have been. If you eat too much it’s gonna show in your numbers. The scale doesn’t have a brain and it’s not going to deduct numbers because your boss was mean or your kids were driving you nuts or because you wanted to eat dinner with your husband/wife or hang out with your friends. No it’s not going to be less because you wanted it to be or because you didn’t do as terrible as you could have. The scale is going to reflect exactly how you treated yourself that week. If you were 100% on program then it will go down, and if you were not great it’s probably going to stay the same as the week before, and if you over did it – it’s going to be higher. The only time the scale shows a temporary increase that is not real is on two occasions – after a weight workout because your muscles are swollen and you have not released the lactic acid (this usually disappears within 2-3 days after the workout) OR after a Cheat day when your body is processing all the new food but in return working harder than it did the day before your Cheat Day. BOTH of these will only work in your favor and go down lower than before if you are back on program after the Cheat Day and if you do not eat more because you exercised. Keep the process simple. If you are on 110% you will lose – if you are having some good and bad days you will maintain (which is always better than a gain), and if you are cheating all the time it will go up. You know what you are doing and how well you are doing it – the choice is always yours.

Sometimes it’s really hard to stay focused all the time. That’s why we have Sharks and Snails and while you may be one or the other you can always be both – just don’t be a Slug!

Sharks – My Sharks are on all the time and always see results and usually make everything look effortless. While I can assure you most of them suffer and text me as much as the next person, the bottom line is they are always on. They love and embrace the six days on and one day off and they love and embrace how they feel and look. Food is fuel and Cheat Day is exciting. That’s who they are and they love being sharks.

Snails Then I have my snails and they are usually on they move a little slower. Whether it’s because of social life or just because they are happy moving along slowly – they are happy and always in the right direction. It just takes them little longer to get there. They are always happy with their process. They own it if they were “off” and celebrate when they are “on.”  They live with the six days on and one day off but sometimes their six days tend to be a little more of healthy or a little extra. While every snail is different the most important thing is they are happy and embrace being a snail. They love the consistency of who they are and how they live.

Sharks/Snails – some of you are very good at being both. You are Sharks some days (most of the time when you have to be, like right before a vacation), and other days you are snails and you are fine with always being on and incorporating a little extra motivation and determination when you need it while living and moving at a snails pace when it suits you.

SLUGS – The one thing you don’t want to be is a SLUG! A slug doesn’t move it just sits there stuck getting bigger and bigger. The process of growing may be slow or fast but either way it’s happening. The slug wants to move – it even sees where it wants to go but it just doesn’t have the motivation or determination to get there. Compared to a slug the snail is a marathon runner! Why would you be a slug? Because it’s easy to be a slug. It’s easy to get stuck and just keep sitting, and talking about what you want and thinking about what you want but when it comes to putting it into motion it’s just too much effort. It’s always going to be easier to do nothing but it’s never rewarding. It will always be easier to talk about how much you want it without putting the effort and work in to get there. Once you are a slug it’s not so easy to get out of it. It takes a lot of effort to get things moving and get re-motivated. It’s so much easier to sit and watch TV and eat treats then it is to plan, prepare and do the right things for your body and mind. Simply put, it’s easy to eat and it’s hard not too. It’s easy to sit and it’s harder to keep moving.

If you are a Shark or a Snail be happy and own it, and if you are a Slug or turning into one – you need to get moving and have your body start catching up to what the mind wants. We all have choices in life of how we want to live and what we want out of life. At the end of the day you are the only person who can make your life amazing. You are the only person who can make yourself happy, healthy and feel good. We are here for you, will guide you and give you the tools – but it’s still up to you to stay on your path and work hard everyday to become the person you want to be and live the life you want to have.

Fun Fact:
Does this have any relation to how they live?
Life expectancy
Shark – is up to 30 years
Snails – up to 10 years
Slugs – up to 7-12 months

Innovation Winter Challenge 2017 Weight Loss Winners

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS OF THE INNOVATION 2017 WINTER WEIGHT LOSS CONTEST

Andrew Stern: 19 lbs
Beth Mallor: 16.6 lbs

We had really great weight loss numbers and the contest was REALLY close. But in the end you all won because you have all started Spring 2017 lighter, healthier and fitter than you were in January. How amazing for you all! When it comes to weight loss, it doesn’t really matter where you start – It matters that you enjoy the journey, work hard and feel great about yourself inside and out. You have all accomplished that. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE CONTESTANTS!

Many people always ask “how did they do it?” … I will tell you how. In order to lose weight you have to work hard everyday. You have to think about it everyday and you have to plan for it everyday. It’s really hard work! But it’s hard work for any success that you have in life. Any successful person will tell you that you have to work hard everyday. You have to give it your all everyday and you have to want it more than anything everyday. Whether it’s weight loss, school, or your career – it’s hard work and it’s exhausting and exciting all at the same time. You have to stay motivated and you need to constantly push yourself – especially if others  are trying to pull you down.  It doesn’t mean that you don’t have fun.  It’s what your version of fun is — Cheat day is fun. It’s a break from the real world once a week. Vacations are fun they are a break from the real world for a long weekend or long week. My point to this – is it’s easy to do nothing and it’s even easier to do the wrong things. But it won’t make you happy and it definitely won’t make you successful. If you want to be successful whether it’s in weight loss or any part of your life – it takes commitment, perseverance, and both physical and mental strength. You have to be willing to be exhausted but keep doing the right things… it’s okay to be aggravated but keep doing the right things – And of course on the happy days it’s always easier to do the right things!

Always remember the more consistently you work hard the more successful you will be..  Doing nothing is easy. Working hard and being successful is hard but definitely more rewarding. You have to decide who you are and what you are willing to give. Like Andrew and Beth! They worked hard for what they wanted and it shows!

CONGRATULATIONS ANDREW
YOU DID AMAZING AND IT SHOWS!!!
ANDREW LOVES THE WAY HE LIVES AND LIVES THE WAY HE LOVES!

CONGRATULATIONS BETH!
YOU DID ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!
BETH LOVES THE WAY SHE LIVES AND LIVES THE WAY SHE LOVES!!!

Happy Spring!

IT’S THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING AND
IT’S GOING TO BE AS AMAZING AS YOU MAKE IT!

If you haven’t already started working toward where you want to be I suggest you start now. Spring is here –  it’s now and it is not waiting for you to get ready for it. If you want to be amazing and feel amazing this Summer there is one simple solution…follow your program. Do the right thing for you body and do it for your mind – and get on program and stay on. As you know, there are all types of people in the world. There are those who DO and those who TALK ABOUT DOING. You have to decide who you want to be.

It’s up to you if you want the very best results.
It’s up to you if you want to be thin or you want to talk about being thin.

The very worst feeling is having a party or an event and not being ready for it. Sometimes things come up out of the blue and we just think, “Oh I wish I would have known I would have made sure I was ready for it”. But SUMMER is here the same time every year and you are either going to be ready or not. Right now you have time to get yourself in motion and make the changes you need to make to see the differences you want to see. While many might not reach their goal by Summer you will know you will be closer to it then you are today. The journey can be just as exciting as the finish line. Here are somethings I want you to remember when you are trying to be the best you can be:

  • You will see the best results when you have 6 consecutive on program days.
  • The Cheat Day only works when your other 6 days are 110% on program.
  • Exercise is amazing but only if your food is 110% amazing. You CAN’T eat more because you are exercising.
  • Stop making excuses  – you are only hurting yourself.

The bottom line is if you want to be amazing, look amazing and feel amazing then you have to put the work in. You have to follow your program, you have to be a little hungry and you have to want this more than anything. Temptation will always be in sight but you have to be stronger than what’s in front of you. You have to look at yourself and visualize what you want in 2 weeks from today – 4 weeks from today and 2 months from today. Every weight loss day is one day closer to the person you want to be. You can only fight the addictions, the habits and the poor choices if you recognize that you have them. OWN THEM… and move on. If you have been amazing then continue to be amazing and if you have not done the right things to make yourself happy then start today and make them happen. You are the only person who has control over you happiness. Just like you are the only person who has control over being unhappy. Make the choice. If you know that feeling healthy, seeing weight loss and being thinner is going to make you HAPPY – then do it! YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN GET IN YOUR OWN WAY TODAY.

IT’S THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING AND A GREAT DAY TO BE AMAZING!!

REPEAT AFTER ME….

I WANT TO BE AMAZING
I WILL WORK 110% TO BE AMAZING
AND I WILL FEEL MORE AMAZING EVERY DAY

TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF MY LIFE

Are You Ready?

It’s March 1st, and after most of you were on vacation last week, and some really beautiful days here on Long Island, you have to wonder are you ready for spring? Because I think we can all agree – Spring is coming early this year. Whether you were off program last week for vacation or kept it together and ate clean – what is most important today is that you are right back on track and doing all the right things to get you where you want to be. Because once summer is here – your chances of losing are a lot less than they are today. Right now is when you should be working hard everyday and staying on program and exercising and doing all the right things for your body so when your next vacation/spring/summer comes around you are ready. Don’t wait to get ready the week before – it’s now that you should have all your focus on where and who you want to be when the time arrives.

We go through different stages in different times of the year.  We have our months that are full of holidays and summer vacations and BBQ’s – They are full of maintain days.

Then we have days where there really isn’t much going on. We are on our regular schedule of work, kids, friends, family…These are the days we should be losing. These are the days we work hard and make a difference.

Of course there will always be temptation, but the weight loss days are the days that you have to make it happen. Right now coming off a week of vacation you would think the last thing you want to do is eat more. But unfortunately that is exactly what you want to do – is eat more! The reason is – whenever you feed your body unhealthy choices and you stuff it to the extreme – it gets use to it and it wants more. Your stomach has stretched out in more ways then one and it wants you to keep filling it. The more you stretch it the more hungry you will be. The more unhealthy food choices you put in your body the more hungry it makes you.

*Unhealthy food choices give you cravings to want to eat more unhealthy food

*Healthy on program food takes your cravings away so you eat less and feel good about it.

*When you eat less than you need your stomach shrinks and so does your cravings

*Once you stretch your stomach from constantly over eating – the only way to get it to shrink is to eat less and feel those little hunger pains throughout the day.

*Never starving but you need to be a little hungry or you will stay where you are or get bigger*

Whenever it is that you return from vacation always remember this – it will take one week to get right back to feeling good and two weeks to feel great! Consistency is the most important part of your program. Continue to keep choosing the right foods and stay on your program meals and snacks – stick to your menu. Before you know it, by the end of the first week you have all the bloat gone and by the end of the second week you are back to losing. We all pay a price when we go away but you can keep it a positive by enjoying while you are there and getting right back to a healthy place when you return. This is life and while it’s meant to be enjoyed it can only be enjoyed when you put your hard work in. That goes for weight loss, jobs, family and friends. There is and should always be a time that you enjoy your hard work. But it’s only enjoyable when you work hard for it. If it came easy it wouldn’t be as much fun. And if it’s important enough to you then it should be worth the work! Health, family, friends, your career. They are and should all be amazing and the harder you work them the more satisfaction it will bring.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

IF IT MEANS A LOT TO YOU, THEN IT’S WORTH WORKING HARD FOR IT.

On Vacation? Choose Your Battles

I have to first say I am so so proud of so many of you! I really see how hard you are working and so many of you did all the right things getting right back on after New Year’s and have not looked back. New, old and returning have made a commitment and have stayed with it. Some are sharks and others snails but both doing amazing at their own pace! Now we are in a place where so many are going away – sand or snow. I know it sounds crazy hard to be able to maintain while you are away but if you are mindful and really think about what you are doing it’s not as hard as you may think. Here are some things to remember and follow when on vacation:

CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES ON VACATION: I know I have said it over and over but I like for you to think it in your sleep – In order to maintain you can actually add food or drink into your program and still lose. The reason for this is because when you are trying to lose you need to be in a state of restricted. You need to have LESS than your body needs. When you are maintaining you get to have more food than when you are trying to lose. You get to have enough food – the amount that your body needs to maintain and not lose and not gain.

  • One meal and dessert off OR alcohol but not both. So if you are a foodie then you will eat clean all day and choose one meal a day and one snack/dessert and have that as an off program choice. OR if you are over the age of 21 and like your alcoholic beverages on vacation then you can do clean meals and snacks and have your drinks when you want them.
  • Stay away from the nachos! When you are at the pool or the beach or after the slopes – you will order fresh raw veggies with hummus or light ranch. These veggies will help keep you munching and maintaining while you are laying around enjoying the sunshine or relaxing at the lodge after you ski.
  • If you choose to have one meal a day off program then you do not get a Cheat Day at the end of the week. Remember, the Cheat Day only works when the other 6 days are 110% on program. So if you know you are “off” each day then you are using that and not your Cheat Day. You can’t do both because if you do you won’t maintain you will gain.
  • You can’t run, exercise or ski off a bad food day so any exercise you do, make it in addition to your controlled food day.

The most important thing to remember is how hard you have worked to get to where you are today. You have sacrificed and have gotten yourself to a place where many of you no longer have cravings through the week. When you work so hard to get here you want to be able to enjoy it. Just because you are on vacation or a “stay-cation” doesn’t mean you just go back to your old habits – and trust me they will want to come back. It’s up to you to remember how AMAZING you feel when you are doing the right things. It’s up to you to think about how hard you worked to get to this amazing place.

DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN: Most people start vacation feeling amazing. You work hard and you do all the right things to get there and then all of a sudden by mid vacation you start to think “I can have that – I’m on vacation” and  “I can have that – everyone keeps telling me how great I look” and “I feel soooo good – I’m just gonna have it this one time.” And then slowly you start incorporating more and more and throughout the day you are picking and tasting and sharing…before you know it you are bloated and your clothes are starting to tighten. And if that’s the worst of it that would be enough but it’s not. Because then all of a sudden your mood starts to change. You went from starting the vacation so happy to now you are slowly becoming miserable. You can’t believe you let it get you again. You are starting to feel that heaviness. And you were so happy when you were lighter why did you let it happen…now your whole mood has shifted. You think the kids are driving you crazy but the truth is you are driving them crazy! You are feeling bloated and you are upset and short tempered. All because you feel bigger and bloated because you are no longer in control. When you are not feeling your best everything starts to bother you. And you keep thinking I was just so happy. I shouldn’t be doing this we are on vacation – but you can’t help yourself because your sugar levels are dipping and rising with every unhealthy meal you have. Then you have a drink or a bad meal to numb out the fact that you did it again and the drinks / unhealthy meals just make you eat more and before you know it you are waking up even worse then the day before! Then you start thinking you just can’t wait to get home! But wait it was only a couple of days ago you couldn’t wait to get here!  – DON’T DO THIS TO YOURSELF!  There is no food or alcohol that is worth this. Stay in control and think about what you are eating and putting in your mouth before you do it.  Have a plan everyday so you can enjoy your vacation.

I’m telling you this today before it happens. Choose your battles –  I want you to read this on the plane. I want you to read it on the beach or in the lodge. You are not there to eat out of control. It’s okay that staying in control and on plan makes you happy. Don’t get in the mindset that you need to eat everything because you are on vacation. Because that will make you unhappy not happy! You are not there to be unhappy. You are on this beautiful trip with your family and/or friends and you are there to have an amazing time that should not revolve around food. It should include food but not revolve around it. There is always a healthy choice – MAKE IT! You can’t have the whole cake but you can have a slice everyday and that should be enough. Your “slice” might be dessert, meal, alcohol etc. but choose it and have it everyday – but the rest of the day must be clean. Because you will feel so much better THE WHOLE VACATION if you do. You can have your cake and eat it too you just can’t have it morning noon and night everyday. Choose your battles and know what is important to you. If it’s your alcohol then make a place for it in your snacks. If it’s your desserts then that is what you have each night with the rest of the day clean. If it’s your food then you choose which meal each day you are going off on. You should have an amazing time and you should enjoy everything you want – but that doesn’t mean you go there and you treat everyday like a Cheat Day and it doesn’t mean you go there and lose even a little control because you know better where that will lead. Staying in control makes you happy and makes you feel good. That’s what your vacation should be about – feeling good! When you go on vacation you are supposed to come home feeling better than when you left – make sure you are doing what it takes to feel that. I always tell you that when you come home I will get you back to feeling amazing. But the truth is, you want to be away and feeling amazing. So think about your choices and make sure they are worth it. Because at the end of the day – In the reality of it all, it’s not very hard – IT’S TEMPTING. BUT YOU ARE STRONGER THAN ANY TEMPTATION.<

CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES AND YOU CHOOSE YOUR HAPPINESS.

Life Is About Choices

Yay! It’s Monday!!! It’s the start of another healthy week. Another week where you can see a new low by the end of it. Another week where you can make all the right choices and feel amazing! Don’t look at Monday like it’s the start of just a boring work week – look at it like it’s the beginning of another week where you are learning to love to live healthy!!!! Everything in life is a cycle. When we ride it the right way we can live it the best way. You start your week off amazing and you continue on that path regardless of what gets in your way. You need to make the right choices so that by the end of the week you accomplished another healthy, happy week where you know your numbers will reflect your hard work. Every day is an opportunity to do the right thing for yourself, your mind and your body. Only you can make today a GREAT DAY! Only you can make today a HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS DAY! Only you can do the RIGHT THINGS AND STAY ON YOUR PATH TO REACH YOUR GOALS! Remind yourself how important it is to you and remind yourself how much you want it. How you look at the day and the week will reflect on how your results will be.

VALENTINE’S DAY!

Love is in the air and today on Long Island it’s blowing around like crazy! Hopefully cupid has a steady shot – because he can easily mix up some arrows in this wind. Be prepared for the week and especially for tomorrow. Many of you waited to have your Cheat Day until tomorrow (so proud of you)! That was the smart thing to do when you know that you either have dinner plans or are weak when it comes to those heart shaped chocolates! For those of you who waited, you get to enjoy and not think about what you will order in advance!

If you had your Cheat Day this past weekend you made your choice and you have to stay 110% tomorrow because there is no free pass because it’s Valentines Day. If you are lucky enough to be “In Love” then that should be enough and food a distant second. If your “Love” is not enough tomorrow then you need to focus on what you will have and stick to it. Regardless of where you are going or what you are doing you can order a clean meal…and save your snacks for your drinks. There is always an on program option you just have to make it.

See, when it comes to weight loss it is all about making choices. The Cheat Day helps you do that. That’s why you can’t split them. You can’t have more than one and you can’t pretend it wasn’t bad because you only had “one thing off the whole day.” The whole idea of the Cheat Day is to choose what day is most important to you each week and enjoy it. It’s for you to understand and accept that you CAN HAVE IT  just not everyday. And ONE DAY A WEEK should be more than enough for you. But it does require making choices. Because if you don’t take the time to think and make a choice – you are basically giving yourself freedom to have more than one Cheat Day. And that never works. So if  Valentine’s Day is important to you to cheat, then you should have waited and had a clean weekend and have your Cheat Day on Valentine’s Day. It doesn’t matter if you were going out to dinner on the weekend – it’s a choice. It doesn’t matter if you were only a “little off” on your Cheat Day – you made a choice. You make your choices and you know that Off is Off. If you were off for a day or a meal or even just a dessert – you made the choice to have your day and now you move on until next week. The cheat day only works when your other 6 days are a 110%. You have to make choices and those choices will reflect whether you lose, gain or maintain. You can’t just “wing it” and it just can’t be “a little here and a little there”. When you want to lose weight and keep it off it has to be one Cheat Day a week – no exceptions. Once you start writing your own rules and have a cheat dinner Saturday and then you do a cheat Valentine’s day – You have made the choice to be OFF TWO DAYS in one week…and that is no longer a weight loss week. And whether you maintain or gain will depend on how 110% the rest of your 5 days are.

One Cheat Day is what you get and you should be thrilled with that. When you make the right choices it can and should really work for you in a very positive way. If you really want to see your numbers go down you have to follow it 110% 6 days clean and 1 day off. It’s simple and it’s only when you start writing your own rules and making the choice that ONE Cheat Day a week is no longer enough for you is when you will start gaining. Choices are hard. But when we were young we were taught how important it is to make the right choices – and it’s what we teach our children – If you want success you have to make good choices. It’s time to start living what we teach and preach – and make the right choice that you know will work  for you. So when tomorrow rolls around and it’s  “Valentines Day”  and you already had your Cheat Day you have to make the choice – Do you want to lose weight this week? If you want to lose weight then you eat clean on Valentine’s Day and save your candy for your Cheat Day! If you want to gain weight or maintain then you have your Valentine’s Day dinner and candy and live with the consequences that it was more important to you then losing this week.

Life is all about making choices and when we do the right things and plan we can be amazing. I know it’s not easy. But it’s worth it. Because when you get on the scale you want to see that number lower. You want to feel good and lighter and one step closer to your goal. If you see the number goes up or doesn’t change from the prior week – I promise you that if you can even remember what you ate and drank to cause it – you will think it so wasn’t worth it.

Besides do you really want to over eat on Valentine’s Day? Do you really want to end the night with the one you love stuffed and bloated?

If you want to reach your goals your choices have to reflect what you want. Your choices have to be planned. Your choices have to be the most important thing you make this week.
Life is about making choices and when you make the right ones for your body, and mind, you will realize that making the right choice is so much easier than regretting the wrong one.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!
REMEMBER VALENTINES DAY IS ABOUT LOVE AND CAN BE SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST A SIGNIFICANT OTHER
ALL THE LOVE IN YOUR LIFE MATTER ON VALENTINE’S DAY
MOM, DAD, CHILDREN, SISTERS, BROTHERS, AUNTS, UNCLES, FRIENDS, COUSINS, BABYSITTERS….

Winter Challenge Week 4

4 Weeks in and you are all doing amazing. When you want something bad enough and are willing to work for it the results are endless! Challenges and temptations are always around every corner. It’s up to you how you handle them. One way to handle them is to always be prepared. Being prepared will save you time in the long run. Do it before and you won’t have to worry about figuring it out later.
SNOW IS ON THE WAY…so it’s super important that you keep yourself in a mental place that is strong. Snow lasts a couple of days and the weight gain will last a month! Today is a great day to plan what you are doing tomorrow. Get the snacks and items you need in the house so you are not stuck when you wake up tomorrow morning and can’t drive. Already have your mindset that you will not go off plan because there will be snow when you wake up. Plan to stay home and have your meals and snacks ready so you don’t say to me on weigh in day “I was stuck in the house.” No one is “stuck”  because for my clients that live in the North East you have had more than enough warning that you will most likely be snowed in tomorrow. Get ready for it today. Don’t think, “Oh if I don’t have anything in the house I won’t eat” – that won’t work. There is always something in the house and when you are desperate it’s amazing the things you will come up with. So don’t even put yourself in that position. When it comes to your food make sure you have your plan and know what you are doing tomorrow. And get whatever you need today so tomorrow is effortless with your meals and snacks. Remember it’s a “snow day” not a “cheat day.” At the end of the day you will feel so much better knowing that you stayed on your path and you feel great going into Friday and a weekend where you can pick your cheat day and enjoy it.
There is really no better feeling than when you treat your body right. When you feel good all the time and you do the right things for you body and mind. When you are doing it consistently is when it really makes the biggest difference. Your cravings go away and you know you are on your path to where you want to be. There is nothing worse than being on the roller coaster – up and down and back and forth always ending up in the same place or worse than where you started. In order to be consistent and to get the very best results you need to push yourself everyday. It doesn’t matter how hard it is and it doesn’t matter how challenging it may feel – you need to push past it because when you push past it and you get on a healthy consistent path is when it will start to feel easy. It will start to feel effortless. Remember the hard part is because you are breaking out of the habits that you have created for yourself. It’s moving your body from the weight gain and into the weight loss. It’s paying the price for where you got yourself and working toward where you want to be. Of course it will be hard – but its only temporary. The more you work toward it and are consistent with it is when it will feel easier and effortless. But the more you keep putting it off the harder it will be. The longer you stay on the roller coaster the longer the ride. Face the challenge now. Do the right things and work through the mental pain and create the consistency of working hard everyday for what you want. Because it’s only when you give this 110% 6 consecutive days consistently every week is when you too will see the best results.
KEEP WORKING HARD, KEEP FIGHTING FOR WHAT YOU WANT, AND DON’T LET ANYONE PULL YOU OFF YOUR PATH.  BECAUSE YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON WHO HAS TO LIVE WITH THE RESULTS.

BE PREPARED
BE CONSISTENT
AND YOU WILL BE AMAZING!!
Congratulations to all of our contestants. February is a tough month but a fast month –  Keep working hard, stay strong, and stay on your path.  You are all doing Super Fabulous!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving is here! This can be a very stressful time where healthy eating and staying on track can take a backseat. With Thanksgiving, we have kids off from school, students coming home from college and the beginning of shopping, planning and the holiday season. These next few weeks can go two different ways as the days go by in the blink of an eye and then all of a sudden the New Year is here – you can stay healthy and in control, or you can let it all go and have to start all over in January. You have a choice, and we will help you stick to the right one. It starts this week with Thanksgiving.
There are three options for this week:
Cheat Day – Make Thanksgiving Day your Cheat Day. This might change your routine so be aware of how that affects your schedule. Some of you adjusted your Cheat Day last week in order to keep it consistent, but if you are Cheating today and you Cheated last weekend, you shouldn’t be Cheating again this weekend.
Cheat Meal – Stay clean during the day and indulge for Thanksgiving dinner. This will not only help you maintain this week, but you will really be able to enjoy your holiday meal if you haven’t been over doing it all day.
Stay Clean – It won’t be easy, but in order to stick to your routine and keep your momentum, some of you will choose to stay clean until the weekend. It’s possible, and it’s a great option for this week and to keep you in a good place going in to this winter and holiday season.
No matter what you choose, stick to it. Don’t make this weekend a four day eating marathon. Here are some tips to help you stay in control:
Plan ahead. We say it all the time, but making a plan is going to help you so much. In the heat of the moment, we don’t usually make the right decision. We give in to temptation without thinking things through because we are living in the moment. Think about how you want the rest of this week to go and what you want to see next time you step on the scale. Don’t make this another Thanksgiving that leaves you with regret.
Go for the healthy stuff. You can have turkey, salad and vegetables and stay on plan. Just make sure you are sticking to the right portions and don’t include sauces or gravy. And don’t forget dessert. You can have fruit or bring a long one of your Innovation desserts. If you are drinking make sure you save your snacks during the day.
Give away your leftovers. Let everyone fill up a to go container so you don’t have a fridge full of leftovers tempting you for the rest of the week. If you are staying clean until this weekend, pack up a everything you want to save and enjoy it on your Cheat Day as usual. So many of us feel like we won’t be able to enjoy the holiday without indulging in all the food on Thanksgiving Day, which brings us to our final tip…
Don’t just focus on food. Although Thanksgiving revolves around traditional foods and a holiday meal, remember that it’s also about giving thanks and being with the ones we love. It’s not about stuffing ourselves or eating everything in sight. It’s about reflecting on all the good we have experienced this past year. Think about all the positive things you have done for yourself and your health, and all the good it does for your loved ones around you. It can be easy to go off the rails this time of year, but you have the tools and motivation to stay strong. Pies, stuffing and mashed potatoes are not what’s really special about the holiday. You and your family make it special. Take a moment to look around your table today and be grateful for what you have and who you are with. Pray for those who are alone today or and for those who have lost love. And if you don’t pray, then hope that those who are hurting this Thanksgiving will find peace and love. Take a moment and reflect on how grateful you are today to be surrounded by love and laughter. Remember the food that is on the table is food that you can have over and over again. It is a meal, sides and drink that will be there next year and the year after. But the family, friends and love ones in the chairs around that table – will not be there forever. Remind yourself what and who is really important today. Be grateful and thankful for who is with you and who is in your heart. The food is fun and exciting but the Holiday, Family and the Love you share is really what should be celebrated today.
