When Is It Enough?

ARE YOU WAITING?… The biggest mistake so many people make is waiting. Is it the right time? Should I wait until next week? When summer is over?… After the holidays… Thanksgiving is coming I will start in December… What you must understand is when something is hard and uncomfortable you are never going to feel like doing it. No one really wants to ever step out of their comfort zone. But if you don’t step out of it and never push yourself to where you want to be, you will never reach your full potential. You will never reach your dreams of who you are and what you really want. You will end up being one of those people who just kept waiting… floating.… making excuses…. never really finding the right time and never quite feeling the true happiness of where you are and who you are.

CHOOSE THE GOOD… There is good and bad – there is non committed and committed, and there is positive and negative. If you let it – The bad, Non committed and Negative will always win over the Good, Committed and Positive. Why? Because it’s easier. It’s easier to make the excuse and it’s easier to be overweight, and it’s easier to float through life not really committing or working hard for what you want. It’s always going to be harder to commit to doing the right things, to work hard and stay positive. It all comes down to what you want out of life and how hard you are willing to work for it. How long you are willing to put aside your dreams and how long you are willing to feel the unhappiness of not being comfortable with who you are or are becoming. But just remember when you take the easy path you have to live with the consequences of it everyday. There will be a time that you look back and say, Why? Why did I give in to overeating when I know it made me so miserable? Why did I spend so much time unhappy and spreading that unhappiness to those I love for something I could have worked hard to change? Why did I use every excuse and bring so much negativity in my life for something that I can’t even remember if I enjoyed or not? Why didn’t I just work hard and do the right thing if I new that was what was going to make me happy.

THE HARD YOU DON’T SEE… The past couple of weeks even through the holidays and after – we had so many clients who did amazing. They got on the scale and saw the number go in the right direction and it just motivates them to keep going. In order to gain that motivation you need to commit to yourself and work hard. Very hard. The clients who reach their goal and look amazing – they work so hard. It’s the kind of hard you don’t see. The routine of staying on when everyone else is off. They stay on their path because they know it makes them happy. They know it makes them feel good and, most important, they have come to realize that their actions have consequences. They are consequences that are not worth the results. For them, it’s about feeling good all the time. Doing the right things and putting the work in even when it’s hard. You see, when you stay committed when it’s hard that’s what makes all the difference in the results. It’s easy to stay on path when you are in a good place. It’s easy to stay on when everything is perfect in your world. But we all know those days are few and far between. What really shows who you are and what you want is when you stay on program when it’s hard. When the temptation is in front of you and you walk away. When you know and commit to doing the right thing because you know that is what makes you feel your best. Think about what really makes you happy and work toward it. I am a firm believer that if you work hard and stay on your path it will lead you to the best possible results. But again, you can’t just do it when it’s easy – you have to stay on that path when it’s hard. When it’s challenging when everyone around you is going off of the path, you have to stay on it. When your life has challenges and things just aren’t going your way – you have to stay on it. That’s when you will see the best results, and the hard work and commitment that you have made to yourself will pay off and change you in the most positive way as a person. It changes you into the person you want to be – and the strong person that you knew existed. The one that was waiting to come out and work hard and take advantage of the wonderful life you have and feel good everyday living it.

ONE LIFE TO DO THE RIGHT THING… You need to remember that you get one life and that doesn’t mean that you should spend it indulging and abusing your days. It means that you should appreciate each day and spend them doing what makes you happy and feel good today and tomorrow and the next day. That’s the key. It’s not only about today – there are lots of negative things that we can do today that will make us feel great for the moment, but will you have that same feeling about it tomorrow? You need to focus and spend your time making sure that how you treat your body and mind today will give you the same or better result and feelings tomorrow and the next day. When you do that, you are creating positive links that will change the outcome of your future. Some lives are more challenging than others but you need to stay focused and stay positive and committed to what you want because that is the only way you will get it.

MAKE THE COMMITMENT… If you want to change and be the amazing person that you know is inside of you… then you need to commit to yourself and what you want. Commit to your dream and understand that it won’t be easy but the stronger you are the further you will get. Committed people go the extra mile to reach their goals. Isn’t that who you want to be? Don’t you want to put the work in to become the most amazing person you can be? Only you can do it. Listen, life is hard and weight loss is hard but at the end of the day it’s something you can control. You have to want it more than what’s on the table, in the cabinets or in the glass. It has to be about you, your dreams and your commitment to yourself and those you love. You know what will make you happy and you know what makes you sad – you need to work hard for the happy because we all know the sad will win if you let it. But when you put the work into what makes you happy it’s truly life changing. Before you know it, it will become second nature and you will feel that positive feeling of being committed to yourself and what you want. It’s always a great feeling to do the right thing, and doing the right thing always creates amazing results.

KEEP WORKING HARD… The more work you put in to this and in to yourself is what makes the difference between where you are and where you are going. And at the end of the day we all know what we really want – it’s just a question if you are going to keep making excuses for yourself or are you going to commit to being the positive, hard working person who does the right thing, stays on the healthy path and creates the happiness you want and deserve. You have the control and the want to do it – now you just have to put it into action – and when you do it you will see everything has been right in front of you waiting for you to make the changes to become the lighter, fitter, healthier person that you always wanted to be.

Fall Recipes

Pumpkins and spice makes everything nice!

Recipes for the thirst of fall…

It seems that the start of Fall brings out the “Pumpkin Spice Everything” phase. Walk down any grocery store aisle and you will see Pumpkin Spice flavored items everywhere. The biggest craze seems to be Pumpkin Spice flavored drinks. Now I’m sure it goes without saying, but most of those Pumpkin Spice drinks that we all look for in the Fall are loaded with a ton of fat and sugar. If you’re looking for a yummy Pumpkin flavored drink, try one of these options below. If you do make these please feel free to share with us as we would love to see! Email or text us a picture, or tag us with #InnovationRecipes

For all of you out there who are like me that live for their iced coffee, then try this guilt free option below:

Flavored Iced Coffee: A good idea is to prep this the night before so it’s ready in the morning

Ingredients:

-3 cups fresh coffee

-ice cube tray

-unsweetened almond milk

-McCormick Apple Pie or Pumpkin Pie Spice

Directions:

-brew 3 cups of coffee

-Take 1.5 cups of coffee and pour it into the ice cube tray. Freeze overnight for 6-12 hours

-Take the other 1.5 cups and place in a cup that you can refrigerate over night (a mason jar works great for this)

-Add the coffee iced cubes in a glass (using coffee iced cubes helps prevent your coffee from becoming watered down). Pour the plain cold coffee on top.

-Add in a splash of unsweetened almond milk and a sprinkle or two of either Apple Pie or Pumpkin Pie spice (depending on the flavoring you want) and stir.

Pumpkin Hot Chocolate

And if you’re looking for something a little warmer then you’ll love this one!

Ingredients:

-1/4 cup pumpkin puree (canned or homemade is fine)

-1 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder

-1 tsp vanilla extract

-1/4 tsp cinnamon

-pinch of salt (don’t omit)

-1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

-low fat whipped cream

Directions:

-Blend all of the ingredients together

-Transfer to a mug and microwave 1-2 minutes until hot

-Add 1 tbsp. low fat whipped cream on top

Yom Kippur…

Tomorrow at Sundown begins Yom Kippur the holiest day of the year — the day on which we are closest to G‑d and to the quintessence of our own souls. It is the Day of Atonement — Be forgiven and cleansed from all your sins before G‑d.

For nearly twenty-six hours — from several minutes before sunset on 9 Tishri (Sept. 29) to after nightfall on 10 Tishrei (Sept. 30) — we “afflict our souls”: we abstain from food and drink, do not wash or anoint our bodies, do not wear leather footwear, and abstain from marital relations. Instead, we head to temple and our time is spent in prayer to G‑d. It’s truly a beautiful holiday.

For those of you who follow, it’s a great time to give your weight loss a boost as well. Your last meal on Friday should be a nice balance of protein and healthy carbohydrates and this combination will sustain you throughout your fast. Some great choices would be:

  • Grilled or Roasted Chicken (no skin)
  • Vegetables – string beans, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus
  • Mashed Sweet potato – (no milk or cream)
  • Fresh Fruit – nuts

Water water water throughout the day before you fast. You should never go into the fast thirsty. When you feel thirst that means your body is already dehydrated which is not good for any of your organs and will make you feel hunger. You should drink water all day when you are NOT thirsty to avoid dehydration.

When you Break the Fast you should not go crazy and eat everything in sight. Some of you will want to and others will not. If it’s your Cheat Day then have a piece and/or spoonful of the foods you like – scoop out the bagel and try to taste smaller choices – instead of eating large servings. If you over eat after fasting you will get sick. Ideally you should stay on program and let the fast work in your favor and Break the Fast with the following:

  • Light Tuna or Vegetable salads with ak mak or wasa crackers
  • Whole wheat or rye toast with lox and light cream cheese
  • Egg White salad with vegetables
  • Vegetables and guacamole or mashed avocado
  • Fresh Fruit – nuts
  • Water Water Water

If you do this you will lose more weight because you are having two clean meals with a long fast in between. The fast helps the weight loss because when your food is digested and used by the body – your body will then begin to burn stored fat. When the fast is over and you fill it with balanced nutritional foods and snacks you will see how much better you feel and will maintain that lighter healthier cleansed feeling. All the yummy treats that are around the table should be saved and taken home in a goody bag or put in your refrigerator and have it on your Cheat Day Sunday so you can enjoy the treats throughout the day and not try to get them all in after nightfall.

You should only be breaking the fast if you actually fasted:

If you are not fasting because of medicine, not religious, you just can’t do it….  then you should be sticking 110% to your program, and eating on program Friday and Saturday and unless it’s your Cheat Day Saturday then you should be on program and your Cheat Day is your Cheat Day – Done!

Innovation Weight Loss wishes you all a healthy peaceful and fulfilling year.

Rosh Hashanah

As we approach the New Year it’s a great time to think about what the Holiday is about and what it means to you. Rosh Hashanah is the celebration of the Jewish New Year. In celebrating the New Year, Rosh Hashanah celebrates the creation of the world. It is one of the holiest days of the Jewish Year. With that said, it’s important to understand that while celebrating with food is fun and exciting – the most important thing today is to understand the holiday and celebrate the meaning of it, not celebrate eating for it. Take a moment this evening to remember the meaning of the Holiday. One part of the holiday is to reflect the mistakes of last year and focus on being a better YOU this year. That better person that you want to be starts today, it starts tonight. Focus on what you want and start the New Year with making it happen. Remember this holiday is to celebrate the world, it’s to celebrate life and those you love, and to be thankful that you are all together today to be able to celebrate it. Keep reminding yourself that you do not want to start your New Year with the same mistakes that you have been working hard to put behind you. It’s all about choices. Even on the holiday – we can celebrate it, but it’s life changing to understand and live the true meaning of it.

If food is going to be a challenge for you tonight – here are a few tips to follow:

CLEAN DAY: If it’s not a Cheat Day and you want to continue to lose weight today then you need to treat it like any other day when it comes to food. Have the roasted chicken or turkey and side vegetables. Save your snacks for after dinner fruit and if you choose to have a drink. Remember if you have already started losing weight then it’s part of your holiday to Start the New Year continuing on the right track. There is no reason for you to take what this beautiful Holiday is about and go backwards. Stay on your path and on your healthy eating and continue it through the New Year doing the right things for you and what makes you feel your best. Someone recently said to me, “I’m staying clean tonight because I’m really tired of feeling crappy from food” – if that is how you feel then don’t let the Holiday be the reason to take you off your path. After all, that would be contradicting what the holiday even means. It means to start new and put the mistakes behind you – so do just that. Continue on your path of weight loss and eating clean because that is what makes you feel the very best and how you want to start your New Year.

MAINTAIN DAY: If you choose to make it a Maintain Day then the best thing to do is this: Whatever meat you do whether it’s brisket, chicken or fish make sure it’s 6 oz with a vegetable. If there is something you want to try like a soup or dessert then do just that: try it. Take a small portion like a cup of broth instead of a bowl. A tablespoon of dessert instead of a piece or a slice. If you are celebrating more than one day – don’t do it both days. Choose each night to try something whether it be a small cup of soup or a tablespoon of dessert. The most important thing is that you go in with staying On Program and stay extremely mindful and know in your head that if you want something you will taste (not eat it). It’s only one thing each night if, and only if, you need it. Don’t treat it like a Cheat Day because it’s not. Sometimes just tasting it is enough and you realize you really don’t want it or need the whole thing. Being mindful on the holidays helps a lot because we get caught up with eating because it’s a holiday and not eating because we need or even want it. Think before you reach. The very worst thing you want to happen is you don’t end up Cheating and your Maintain Day ends up to be a Weight Loss day.

While you are remembering and celebrating what the holiday means to you and those you love – also remember how much better you feel and look when you do the right things for your mind and body.
This New Year live and be the Healthy Example to Others

Fall In Love With Yourself

FALL IN LOVE WITH YOURSELF…is our Mantra for “FALL.” It’s sometimes not enough to just take care of your body but when you FALL in love with taking care of your mind and body it can be life changing. What does it mean to fall in love with your mind and body? It means it’s about more than doing things just to do them or follow things just to follow them. It means you are doing it because you love the changes and the way it’s making you feel and you keep wanting more and more of that feeling.

In the beginning of the program (the first couple of weeks) you just need to get through the weeks to get to your Cheat Day. The Cheat Day is life saving as it helps you stay on program the other six weight loss days. But after a couple of weeks and after seeing some really nice changes – it should start to become more than getting through your 6 clean days to get to your Cheat Day. In fact, it should start to reverse. You should start to live for the six clean days. The Cheat Day is fun and always look forward to it, but your body and mind should begin to understand and take notice that you feel your very best on your six clean days. Mentally you start to look forward to them. At the end of the Cheat Day you can’t wait to eat clean the next day. You can’t wait for a couple of clean days to pass – so you can feel better and get back to the lighter and cleaner feeling you love. You can’t wait to get back on the track of eating clean knowing that you are back to fueling your body with healthy and clean eating and in return it’s working your numbers in the right direction. By mid week you should begin to get excited wondering what you will lose this week. Knowing how amazing you feel and loving how you look and knowing that you are fueling your body with clean foods you should also think about what you will lose – how much? The closer you are to your menu and the cleaner your eating, the more weight you will lose. Will you see a new number and will it be the lowest one you have seen in a long time? It is so exciting to take care of yourself to the point of loving it. Loving how you feel and loving how it’s changing you mentally and physically. When you love feeling good, healthy, lighter, fitter and thinner there is truly no better feeling and no better way to live. It’s a positive addiction that you should want and love.

Client story: I had a client come in this past weekend who has struggled since she started. She struggled for many reasons – food around the office, socializing, summer etc. – we all know there are always reasons to go off program. But what we started doing with her is focusing and thinking about the reasons to stay on program. What did it mean to her and how she felt when she was on program. How excited she was losing weight and feeling great. How much the number went down when she did the right thing but even more important how amazing she felt knowing that her weeks started to become 110% on program. Yes – it was mentally hard sometimes but she knew physically she was feeling so much better and that is what we focused on and that is what was making her mentally stronger.

Since we started the “positive” thinking and focusing on her six clean days it has made a big difference in many ways. The last couple of weeks she has lost weight every week. She felt good about herself and her whole attitude changed from being sad that she was struggling to so positive and happy that she looked forward to eating clean and staying on program. All of a sudden she was excited to come in and step on the scale. She couldn’t wait to see the number and what she had accomplished during the week. What I found most amazing was as she was walking out last week – she said “I am really excited to have my cheat day because I understand now how much more satisfying it is to have the cheat day when you are really true to yourself and you are really clean and 110% for 6 days. Yes it was hard to eat less and once I focused on my 3 meals and 3 snacks I realized that I was eating so much more than that and was still having a cheat day. The six days weren’t making me feel great and the cheat day wasn’t satisfying. Once I started focusing on my 3 meals and 3 snacks is when I started seeing the weight come off. I immediately started feeling better. It was hard not to take bites and sips like I was used to doing but sticking to exactly what I was supposed to made it easier. It also made me appreciate my cheat day because it is truly the ONLY DAY I AM CHEATING.” It’s one true sign when you know you have been so on program that you feel like you deserve that day and you earned it. Sometimes we get caught up with having the cheat day whether or not we were 110% all week – we still feel like we should have it. But the truth is, you need to be focused on how clean your week is and that will determine if you should have a cheat day.

This week try focusing on your six clean days instead of focusing on your Cheat Day. Think about each day and how good you feel when you go to bed because you followed the program and stayed 110% and think about how amazing you feel when you wake up. Whenever we do the right things for our body it changes us as people. We are happier, and proud of ourself and how we are treating our bodies. We are proud of the way we look and feel. I don’t think anyone can say that they don’t feel anything but amazing when they can get dressed in the morning and feel great in their clothes. If you want that to be you then you need to work for it. If you want to feel good all week then you need to stay focused and positive about your clean days. Don’t focus on the one Cheat Day – focus on how you feel the six clean days. Yes, you may feel hungry but what else? Think about positive things you feel – Lighter, healthier, thinner – and how do you feel when you followed all week and at the end of the week when you step on the scale – proud, super happy, like you want you jump around and tell the world you did it – you lost weight and feel great!

When you do the right things for you body, and make the right choices, and fuel your body with the right foods, you feel better. Some weeks will always be harder than others but if you stay true to what you want and what makes you feel the best and keep positive everyday knowing this is what makes you happy – then you will start Falling in love with what you are doing and what it’s doing for you. When this happens you will never want to go back to treating your body unhealthy – because you know feeling like that makes you unhappy. Why would you want to do anything that makes you unhappy or not feel good? Stay positive and remember what makes you feel your best and what makes the changes in your body the best it can be. Stay focused and positive on your six clean days and how they are changing your body and then you enjoy your Cheat Day.

POSITIVE THINKING: As much as you love and enjoy the Cheat Day you realize that every consecutive six days that you complete is what is changing your body. It’s changing how you look, it’s changing the scale and most important, it’s changing how you feel. When you fall in love with taking care of your body and fall in love with feeling the very best that you can – it no longer is about the one Cheat Day a week. It’s about the six clean days that you are fueling your body with healthy clean proportioned foods that make you feel your best.

There is no better feeling than taking care of yourself. There is no better feeling than doing the right thing for your body and your mind. There is no better feeling than being the best you can be.

There is a donation box where you can drop off supplies in the Innovation Store at 8031 Jericho Tpke in Woodbury.

As the school year begins, please pray for the victims of the Hurricanes.
When you feel like you want help and you can’t afford to give or donate, always remember the one thing everyone can do is pray and if you don’t pray then hope.
The dynamic of the power of prayer or to give hope is always welcome and and it’s a powerful way to connect to the hearts to those who are in need.
