Weight Loss Is Hard but makes you so happy!

This past weekend was pretty awesome.  We had so many clients losing weight and reaching numbers they thought they would never see.  Super super exciting!  I love that I can just see, hear, and feel the excitement in the clients.  Everyone is really working hard and in a “hardcore”state of mind to reverse the quarantine weight, and/or reach new goals or see numbers they have not seen in years.

For most of you, the Innovation Program is not a diet — it’s a way of life.  You live it and you love the way it makes you feel.  And this is the time of year — especially after quarantine that you know how important it is to give it that little extra hard work that really pulls it all together so you get the very best results every single week.  For others, this is all new and while you may be just starting or in it for a couple of weeks — it will come together and you all of a sudden realize how hard you have to work to lose weight but you also realize when you do work hard and stay on your path and eat clean 6 days at 110% consistency — that’s when you will get the best results.  I say it all the time… in all aspects of life if you work hard you will get the results.  Weight loss is something you should not mind working hard at because it’s for your health both mentally and physically.  — My clients love to send me pics (and I absolutely love getting them) and I can’t begin to describe the changes in clients when they lose weight and eat clean — and how it gives them an extra bounce in their step and personality — it’s sheer happiness that is beaming from their healthy hydrated skin.

It’s mid – July  and everyone is just so excited to be losing weight and really excited to be feeling great and doing the right thing.  It’s truly when you can enjoy the most is when you feel great.  So if you want to enjoy the vacation out east or the extra drinks throughout the week you must stay on program because you can enjoy and lose weight — and when you do both that is when you feel great.  When you feel great is when you truly enjoy everything you are doing.  You ever notice when you feel great how contagious it is — everyone wants to be a part of feeling great.  There is so much sadness is the world — today you have to make sure you appreciate and enjoy every bit of happiness that comes your way.  Most important is to make sure you are creating your own happiness everyday.  That’s what you do on the Program — you do the right thing and lose weight and feel great and it gives you happiness that you have 100% control over.

If you want to be that happy person and you want to put your clothes on and feel good and go out and feel amazing, if you want that happy feeling of control in what you are doing — then you need to be 110% committed to the program and to yourself.  If you are, I promise you that you will feel the best and you will l look the best you every thought possible.

My last thought for you on this beautiful day …. IT’S HARD — weight loss is hard — BUT IT’S SO WORTH IT.  Will you feel hungry?  Yes, you will feel hungry but think about it — you feel hungry even on the days you are over eating.  So at least when you have a little hunger now you know that it’s because you are losing weight and getting results from it.  The clients that have done amazing and continue to do amazing know how tough it is and when it get’s tough they remind themselves how much they want this and how important it is to them.  If you want it then don’t let anything or anyone get in your way.  Don’t look back and wish you did better over quarantine – because it doesn’t matter that time has passed and the only thing you can do right now is stop making excuses and move on to a better today, tomorrow and week.  Don’t bother looking back — only look forward because that is what you have control over.  Don’t let another week go by without doing the right thing because it will only add up and the longer you delay it the harder it will be.  If you do it right now and focus on a better today, then tomorrow will be easier and by next week you will feel amazing and in control. If you want to feel great, happy, lighter and enjoy your summer feeling inspired, motivated and in control — then you have to put the work in starting today and you have to commit to yourself and live the program.  Eat clean 6 days a week and enjoy your once a week cheat day.  Before you know it  you will be the happy, excited, inspired person waking up, jumping out of bed and excited to get dressed.  Because you feel good and there is nothing better than feeling good about yourself especially when you know that YOU are the one who made it happen.

It’s not something you can wish for — it’s something you have to WORK for.

Get Right Back on Program

April is finally going to bring spring! By mid week we will be in the 50’s and by the end of the week 60’s!!!!! And before you know it, 70 and 80 degrees will be quickly following.  The weather has really thrown so many for a loop this year. It felt like the ever lasting winter, especially if you didn’t get the chance to fly away from the cold for a spring break. And on the flip side, if you did go away it’s not always easy to go from beautiful weather back to this very unpleasant cold. Either way, I just want you to know that if you are struggling because you just came back from vacation or struggling from the tough winter – you are not alone. But I also want you to know that you have to snap out of it because once it gets warm – it’s going to just get warmer and warmer.

REGARDLESS OF HOW YOU FEEL TODAY – YOU WILL FEEL BETTER TOMORROW

The first couple of days after vacation are always tough. You feel bloated, thick, and just not in a good place from over doing it on vacation. Then you have the challenge of going back to eating on program which of course is always less than when you are away. But the bottom line is – over eating and drinking is only fun when you don’t feel big and it’s only satisfying when you feel thin and healthy to enjoy it.  That’s what Cheat Days are for. If you feel you over did it and are struggling – there is a very simple cure. You remember how you felt before you left for vacation and you get right back on program. In a day you will feel better, and in a week – amazing. Getting back on program is one of the most important things you can do when you don’t feel your best. It can often be the hardest, but it’s the one thing that will make you feel amazing. In a week you will have that feeling that you love and you will already be looking to enjoy your Cheat Day. Just get right back on. You had your fun and now it’s time to work. That’s why they say work hard, play hard. It’s Monday and it’s time to work hard!

ASK YOURSELF…

Are you ready for the warm weather? Have you at least started? If you have, that’s awesome. Keep eating clean and keep exercising and your body will return the favor by looking and feeling great. Every week you will get to a better and better place. If you are struggling for any reason, you have to remind yourself that the longer you put it off the more you are going to struggle. As hard as it is to start it’s harder not to start. Being on program is what is going to HELP you with the struggle. Getting in control quickly is what is going to make you feel better both mentally and physically. You can’t keep putting it off. You need to remind yourself of what is important and how good you want to feel. How feeling good changes everything about you into all positive things. When you do the right things and you treat yourself the right way you feel good, you have confidence and you want more and more of it. You are happy and everyone around you is happy. But you need to start. Don’t put it off another day. Just get on your program and your healthy path because the faster you do it the quicker you will feel better and the faster the results will be. I know it’s not always easy to do the right thing – but it always pays off when you do. If you want to look and feel good you have to put the work in. I can promise you it’s all about putting the work in and staying on your program and working hard every day.  Don’t just sit and wait for something to happen because it won’t. If you are not doing the right things you will not just wake up one day and be thin. Fat will never magically disappear. In fact, you will just keep growing and growing – and all of a sudden everything is so tight you don’t know what to do. Sometimes it really happens so gradually, you can be shocked. New Clients come in my office everyday and say “I don’t know what happened I was thin and then all of a sudden I wasn’t”. You don’t want to get to that place, but if you are already there – you need to be on program and on your healthy path. Yes, it’s hard. Anything worth having is hard. But it’s also very doable and, more importantly, it’s very worth it. Who doesn’t want to feel great in summer clothes?? Who doesn’t want to be and feel healthy?? Who doesn’t want that control and that lighter feeling?? Most of all, who doesn’t want to slip on summer shorts and feel amazing in them?? Just remember, every day you put it off is another day you could be closer to your goals – closer to feeling good and closer to fitting in your clothes again.

Thea’s Journey

So I found it fitting to post this considering July marks 2 years since I decided to lose weight and live a healthier and happier lifestyle.

Backstory: Senior year of high school I decided I wanted to lose weight for prom and even got my prom dress a size smaller than my normal size to guarantee that I lost the weight. I lost 14 lbs and was so happy and felt amazing, for the first time in years I had seen a number I was unfamiliar with. However, when I started college that year I gained the 14 lbs back and more. I was at my highest weight ever. I ate terribly, thinking that if I ate bad food it would help me deal with the stresses and new changes with starting my first year of college. Well, let me be the first to tell you, it DIDN’T help and only made things worse. I was so unhappy. My weight was high, my body looked terrible, my skin was awful, I felt like crap and was so tired all the time. I was using food as a coping mechanism and that absolutely was NOT the answer.

My first summer after college I decided enough was enough. I was committed to losing the weight and NEVER gaining it back. I finally stepped on the scale and remember crying because I couldn’t believe what the scale said, seeing how much damage I had done. I didnt let that stop me though. I decided I can’t focus on what I did, only what I am GOING to do moving forward. I started eating clean and running maybe 2-3x a week. I remember getting through my first week and felt so good and happy with the results I was already seeing.

Fast forward 2 years, I’m down 30 lbs and have kept it off. I love to eat clean and exercise. I see how much happier I am. I see how I have changed mentally and physically for the best. Weight loss is a journey, not a race, and it is a journey I have learned a lot from. Enjoy the journey, you learn so much about who you are and discover characteristics you didn’t know existed within yourself. Certainly, there are times where it will feel easier to give up. If this was easy, nobody would have unhealthy habits and everyone would be thin. But I can guarantee that it in reality, giving up will only make you feel worse about yourself afterwards. Food DOESN’T make you feel better or solve the problems in your life. Food is just fuel for your body, don’t abuse it or use it as a coping mechanism. If you fall off or have a bad day, just get right back on. I learned that I’m happiest when I’m eating well and exercising. This is my way of life. I changed my mindset about weight loss. I stopped making it about an event or a dress, I made it about me and my life. While losing weight for an outfit/trip/event is a great short term goal, it’s not a long term goal. What I learned is that I made it all about the dress and once I wore the dress, I was way more relaxed with my diet. What I should have been thinking was, “I’m gonna lose weight to feel better about myself in this dress and then focus on keeping it off after.” I lost sight of my long term goal and only focused on a short term goal. Don’t lose sight of your long term goal. I love the person I’ve become while on this journey. I’ve not only made this my way of life but I’ve been so blessed to help other people along the way be the best version of themselves and learn to love to live healthy. If it wasn’t for Innovation, I wouldn’t be where I am right now. I wouldn’t be my happiest and healthiest version of myself. Thank you to my family for always being my support system throughout all this. Thank you for encouraging me and reminding me that I could do this. I’ll never forget weighing in and telling Josephine (my mom) and her ALWAYS celebrating with me. I’m overjoyed and excited to live in this balance of a happy and healthy lifestyle, and I couldn’t imagine it any other way.

HAPPY TUESDAY

HAPPY TUESDAY! Yes, it’s back to life and back to reality. I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend. I have to say I was very very impressed with the amount of clients this year that stuck to the PROGRAM and the one Cheat Day and followed the other 6 days 100%. Even with the long weekend they set their mind to it and did it! I love love love it because I know how much better you will feel today when you wake up and get back to real life. It doesn’t mean you enjoyed any less, in fact for many of you I think you enjoyed more. You were thrilled with your numbers and nothing was going to get in the way of that. I am super proud of you all.

For those of you who have not done the right thing for yourself this past weekend…For whatever excuse you have told yourself that – “I got sucked in :(” – “I thought I had control but I drank too much and it was too late ;(” – “One chip ended in a two day binge ;(” or if you just weren’t great and just feel horrible…If you see yourself in one of the previous descriptions I want you to think about something. I want to think about all the places you were this past weekend and all the people you saw. Think about how you treated your weekend with food and alcohol. Be honest with yourself because at the end of the day –  this is really between YOU and YOU. Did you do the right thing? Could you have done better?

TAKE A MOMENT AND REFLECT: I want you to think about all the people that you have come across this past weekend at the parties, clubs and BBQ’s that you attended. Whether you were in the Hamptons, the shore, or Fire Island. Did you see a person or people walk into the party, and you saw how good they looked and felt. They are the people that everyone automatically looks at when they walk through the door. They are the people who everything looks good on them regardless of what they wear. It could be a stranger, friends, family member. They are the ones that have confidence just flowing from them as they walk in. They are the people who you look at and think WOW they really have it all together! You know the person I am talking about. When you see them – what is the first thought that comes to your mind – YOU WANT THAT! And you should want that! Why wouldn’t you want that! Why wouldn’t you want to look and feel amazing in your skin and clothes and feel so good that it radiates when you walk in room. When we see someone so healthy, fit, in shape and full of confidence you have to ask yourself – what is more attractive than that? They are the people everyone want to be around. And it’s not only because they are thin —— it’s because they are happy and they feel good and it’s contagious to whoever is in their presence. They are like magnets that you want to look at and be near. They radiate health, happiness, success – all the things we all strive for everyday. When you think – THAT IS WHAT I WANT TO LOOK AND FEEL LIKE and that is how I want to act and that is how I want people to look at me — Then you have to understand just how possible that is.

I will tell you first hand it’s possible – because what you don’t know about that person or people – is they have their struggles and they have their weaknesses just like you do. You just don’t see it. And you don’t see them because they fight everyday to get past them. Just like everyone else, some days are easier then others. But they don’t let their food control who they are and what they want. They don’t let their stress make them eat into a frenzy. They are disciplined and strict with their one day off and six days on. It’s not that they don’t want the indulgences any less than you do, but they love to look good want to feel good more. Because they know that when they eat clean and stay on program it keeps them in control and that’s how they love to live. The way they feel and look is more important to them then any food or alcohol can temp them. They fight on their weaker days and they make it a priority to stay on program even when the path is bumpy. Even when they have hungrier days they reach out and we figure out how to get around it or what their best options are to get through it. They know and have learned these weaker days are temporary and everyone has them. They have their struggles in life but they make sure no matter what comes at them their priority is their health and the way the feel.  Because they know and have learned when they feel great they can fight anything else that comes their way. And when you look at them wishing you had that strength to get to where they are  – I am telling you that you do. I know better than anyone they were once you. But they fought, and learned, and kept fighting to get what they wanted and to feel how incredible they do today and everyday. Yes, you do have that strength – you just have to want it as much as they do and you have to want it all the time. You have to get past the tough days and understand they will always be there. We will always have long weekends and parties and stress. It’s all part of life. But you just need to stick to what you know at the end of the day gives you strength and happiness which is eating clean and feeling good in your own skin. When you learn that feeling healthy, thin and fit makes you happy and that happiness helps everything else in your life, that is when you will make it a priority everyday.

What it all comes down to at the end of the day is – It’s always a choice – YOUR CHOICE – Do you want it or do you want to talk about it. Do you want to sit and think about it or are you willing to work hard at it everyday. Every possibility is out there for you. No one can make you be overweight and no one can make you be successful – you have to want it, work for it and fight it. Don’t make excuses – you are no different than anyone else. If you are willing to fight for what you want and put the work in everyday then you can have it too. First decide what you want in life, what makes you happy –  and then go after it. You need to want it and work for it everyday. It will never just happen if you are not working for it consistently. So if you want it, plan it and make sure you are ready to put the work in 110%. Successful people don’t work at things when they feel like it or when it’s convenient for them – They work all the time – 24/7 that’s why they are successful. While you are sleeping they are working out. While you are watching TV – they are preparing their meals for the next week. Success is about putting in 110% and getting 110% out of it.   If it sounds like a lot then you don’t want it enough. If it’s something you really want eventually it won’t even feel like work. It will be a part of your happy life. Start now – life is short make sure every minute of your day counts toward something that is important to you and your future.

Decide what you want – go after it and fight for it 110% everyday.
FIGHT FOR THE FAIRY TALE – IT REALLY DOES EXIST

SUN OR SNOW – HERE ARE SOME HELPFUL TIPS AND FEEDBACK

FOR MY NORTHEAST PEOPLE IT’S GOING TO SNOW SNOW SNOW…how much, nobody knows!!!!

While we wait and prepare for what is to come there are a few things I want you to think about…

Snow will come and go…and in March it’s going to leave us faster than normal. Tomorrow could be 2 feet and next Tuesday could be 60 degrees. You want to plan and prepare to get through the next couple of days with your ON PROGRAM meals and snacks. Make sure you have what you need for the next couple of cozy days and nights to come.

As strong as you feel today I have told you in the past when we are snowed in (especially in March when Spring is next week!), you will want to be prepared. If you are watching a movie save your snacks for the movie. Alway keep yourself busy – make sure you are cleaning out your closets and trying on your shorts. Shop for bathing suits and search about future vacations. Keep motivating yourself and do the right things that will make positive changes in your numbers next week.

We had really amazing results this past weekend. It was one of those weekends where everyone just had awesome numbers. Very few didn’t lose and those that didn’t lose owned it and changed what they needed to. Those that did lose celebrated and gave some amazing feedback. Whether you are preparing for snow in the North East or you live in warmer Texas and Florida, here is some helpful feedback I want to share with you that might help you this week…

CLIENT #1 – She had lost weight but was struggling at a number: “I finally did what you both kept telling me to do week after week. All I had to do was have 6 consecutive days 110% clean and I would lose the weight. I did it and I finally lost weight again. I realize the 6 days are the most important to focus on to lose weight and my new number proves that.”

CLIENT #2 – “I can’t have the extra piece of half eaten toast from my daughter’s plate. The couple of olives I tend to pop in my mouth and not count or lick the ice cream from the cone. I can’t have the bite of pizza and the two french fries that was left over. It really does all add up. You told me they are so little individually but as a whole they are a lot – and it finally clicked. When I stopped all the bites, licks and sips… my weight dropped! I can’t believe it. I was sabotaging myself the whole time and I didn’t even realize it. I’m so happy I lost weight!”

CLIENT #3 – “Wow. I can’t believe how good I did this week. I get it now. It really does matter what you are eating and how much of it. I lost weight this week because I finally decided that it’s okay if I am a little hungry. I decided to do what you said and embrace the hunger and it really does work!”

CLIENT #4 – “I finally understand what 110% clean means. The food has to be clean with no chemicals and no sauces etc. But it also means you want us to be 110% clean with our choices 6 days a week. No room for error – I get it! It worked! I love my new number!!”

*This next one is one of my favorites and it’s not just because she says how right I am lol 🙂

CLIENT #5 – “You were right! When I weighed Friday because I knew I was going out – you yelled at me and said stay off the scale and just do the right thing until your cheat day. You said that if I don’t go off at all and keep Friday and Saturday as clean as the rest of the week that’s when all the magic happens. I didn’t believe it but I did it. I went out and had one drink and ordered super clean. Sure enough the magic did happen and Sunday morning I was down 2 lbs. I promise I will never go on the scale early again. I very easily could have sabotaged myself when the number didn’t move Friday. And you were right – that’s why I went on it. I had it in my head that if I lost weight then I had wiggle room to cheat and if I didn’t lose then who cares it’s not working and I’m cheating! I was looking for an excuse to cheat. Instead you talked me through it and I listened and I went out, had fun, ordered clean and I lost 2 lbs. I can’t believe it! I’m so happy!”

I could go on and on with the happy clients this week and what clients said and did this week that made the difference on the scale. It’s everything I keep writing to you. It’s everything the Podcasts and Radio talk to you about. Do the right thing, keep your 6 days 110% and follow your menu and you will lose the weight. It’s as if for so many it was in your head and you knew it and it finally just all came together. That’s how it works. If you keep moving in the right direction, eventually the little changes that you have made week after week bring you to the bigger changes that need to be made and you drop the weight and your numbers are amazing. There is nothing better than feeling good in your body and about what you have accomplished. It makes everything else in your life so much happier and easier to get through.

Feel good about your strength and willpower and know that you can do it! Remember how much it means to you to see your number go down and the feeling of waking up lighter and healthier.  Only you have the  power to do the right things and to stay on your solid healthy weight loss path.  Keep that feeling of strength and remember the warm weather is closer than it may feel today. Don’t sabotage your hard work. SUN OR SNOW – It’s just another day with a beautiful setting outside. The snow will come and go but you do not want your weight to stay the same or be higher from it.

There are a million excuses you can give yourself to overeat.
Today write a list of reasons why you want to lose weight.

Winter Challenge – Two Weeks To Go!

I hope you don’t think we forgot about the challenge! We didn’t! We were just trying to give everyone a chance to settle back into the routine again after the Winter Break! Looks like everyone is back on track and moving along nicely. With only 3 weeks until Spring and 2 weeks left of the challenge it’s a great time to think about where you are today and where you thought you would be.

WHERE WILL YOU BE TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY?

WEIGHT LOSS, WEIGHT GAIN OR THE SAME…

Whether you are in the challenge or not take a moment to reflect on how you have been doing – and where you are today. Is it where you thought you would be? Think back to when the Challenge started in January. You thought by March you would have lost at least 5 or 10 lbs, and many of you hoping for more! If you didn’t start or you keep yo-yoing back and forth, you better start taking it serious because it’s only going to get harder as the nicer weather approaches.

I can tell you the very first thing you have to stop doing – STOP MAKING EXCUSES and just DO IT ALREADY! Seriously, it’s something you want and something that’s going to make you happy so why are you not doing it? The time is now…It’s not tomorrow, it’s not next week and it’s definitely not next month. The only way you are going to get your life, your health and your happiness in a good place is if you start with your weight. Because it’s the first thing you think of when you wake up and it’s the last thing you think of before you go to sleep. So start making your days happy and stop putting off what needs to be done. You are the only person who has control of this. You see your friends, neighbors, co-workers all on plan and losing weight. You should be losing it too! There are no excuses except the ones that you give yourself.

It is so much easier to do it and stay on it

then to spend the minutes, hours and days contemplating when you are going to start again.

It’s March! Don’t even think about putting it off again. Work hard and keep looking for reasons to get back on program and remember those reasons to stay on program.

Always remember everyone has their struggles – you just have to work hard to get through yours.

Just like all of these contestants worked hard to get through their days of struggle. And because they didn’t quit – Look at these amazing numbers.

Whether it’s 3lbs, 5lbs, 10lbs or 15lbs what is most important is you are all on your way to making your spring and summer amazing, happy, healthy and fun!

With 2 weeks to go you are all doing absolutely fabulous!!!!  Stay strong, follow your menu and you will keep seeing amazing results.

Understanding the Hunger

When it comes to losing weight we all know that one of the hardest things about it is when we feel hungry. Our first instinct is to feed it – feed the hunger. We believe that if we feed the hunger we will actually “feel better” but what happens most of the time is we feel worse. You see there is a line and depending on how much weight you need to lose you have to decide where that line is. The object is for you to eat healthy and clean foods but also to still be a little hungry. Why do you need to be hungry? The answer is simple and sometimes when we understand it, that’s what helps us “Embrace it” instead of “Hate it.”
In order to lose weight you need to take in less food than your body needs. There is no way around it – you have to eat less than your body needs and the weight will come off. Depending on how much less and how clean the food you are eating will determine how much weight comes off and how fast. What I think so many of you have the hardest time with is that you just don’t want to be hungry. Why? Because it’s uncomfortable! And whether you are busy or bored uncomfortable just plain “stinks!” So what happens when you are hungry? This is the part I want you to understand and think about:
—When you are hungry it’s because your body has less food at that moment than it is used to. It’s also good to understand this is a cumulative action. So in the beginning you feel like okay I can do this and that’s only because your body has so much extra in it -whether it’s because you are just starting or if it’s after a Cheat Day. But after a couple of days on program and eating less – your body has used everything extra. Now the body starts to begin to realize that your intake is lower than it has been and lower than it’s used to and it wants more than your are giving it. It has enough food but not as much as it is used to having and it is telling you “I want more!” It wants what you used to give it so it can stay the same and run the same as it used to. So if you feed it you stay the same. Your body is happy and you are all satisfied (for the moment) and nothing changes – including the scale.
Now let’s talk about when you don’t feed into it. When you get to that point of being a little hungry and a little uncomfortable because you know you ate your meals and snacks but you still feel hungry. That is because your body is used to having more and it’s telling you “feed me! I’m not satisfied because it’s less than what you normally give me.”  But if you don’t feed it then it has to use “stored fat.” Ahhhhh now it all makes a little more sense. When it uses “stored fat”  I want you to think of it like a vacuum sucking fat from the cells.  When it uses this fat the cells close – resulting in a smaller you – less body fat. When you use enough of the stored fat and get enough of these cells closing each day/week – that is what results in the scale moving each week.
In case you missed it you can read our article on “Fat Cells”
Being a little hungry is never easy. But when you have gotten to the point that you have over-eaten and you have gained weight – you have to look at it like you got yourself here now you have to get yourself out. You have been there and done that, and quite honestly for most of you you can’t even remember what was good enough to get you to where you are. The only way to get back to the “old you” or “the new you”  is to feed your body healthy, clean and less than what it is used to 6 days a week. It may not be exciting but that’s what cheat day is for. 6 days healthy, clean fuel your body and 1 day exciting.
“Embrace It”
