Are You Ready?

It’s March 1st, and after most of you were on vacation last week, and some really beautiful days here on Long Island, you have to wonder are you ready for spring? Because I think we can all agree – Spring is coming early this year. Whether you were off program last week for vacation or kept it together and ate clean – what is most important today is that you are right back on track and doing all the right things to get you where you want to be. Because once summer is here – your chances of losing are a lot less than they are today. Right now is when you should be working hard everyday and staying on program and exercising and doing all the right things for your body so when your next vacation/spring/summer comes around you are ready. Don’t wait to get ready the week before – it’s now that you should have all your focus on where and who you want to be when the time arrives.

We go through different stages in different times of the year.  We have our months that are full of holidays and summer vacations and BBQ’s – They are full of maintain days.

Then we have days where there really isn’t much going on. We are on our regular schedule of work, kids, friends, family…These are the days we should be losing. These are the days we work hard and make a difference.

Of course there will always be temptation, but the weight loss days are the days that you have to make it happen. Right now coming off a week of vacation you would think the last thing you want to do is eat more. But unfortunately that is exactly what you want to do – is eat more! The reason is – whenever you feed your body unhealthy choices and you stuff it to the extreme – it gets use to it and it wants more. Your stomach has stretched out in more ways then one and it wants you to keep filling it. The more you stretch it the more hungry you will be. The more unhealthy food choices you put in your body the more hungry it makes you.

*Unhealthy food choices give you cravings to want to eat more unhealthy food

*Healthy on program food takes your cravings away so you eat less and feel good about it.

*When you eat less than you need your stomach shrinks and so does your cravings

*Once you stretch your stomach from constantly over eating – the only way to get it to shrink is to eat less and feel those little hunger pains throughout the day.

*Never starving but you need to be a little hungry or you will stay where you are or get bigger*

Whenever it is that you return from vacation always remember this – it will take one week to get right back to feeling good and two weeks to feel great! Consistency is the most important part of your program. Continue to keep choosing the right foods and stay on your program meals and snacks – stick to your menu. Before you know it, by the end of the first week you have all the bloat gone and by the end of the second week you are back to losing. We all pay a price when we go away but you can keep it a positive by enjoying while you are there and getting right back to a healthy place when you return. This is life and while it’s meant to be enjoyed it can only be enjoyed when you put your hard work in. That goes for weight loss, jobs, family and friends. There is and should always be a time that you enjoy your hard work. But it’s only enjoyable when you work hard for it. If it came easy it wouldn’t be as much fun. And if it’s important enough to you then it should be worth the work! Health, family, friends, your career. They are and should all be amazing and the harder you work them the more satisfaction it will bring.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

IF IT MEANS A LOT TO YOU, THEN IT’S WORTH WORKING HARD FOR IT.

On Vacation? Choose Your Battles

I have to first say I am so so proud of so many of you! I really see how hard you are working and so many of you did all the right things getting right back on after New Year’s and have not looked back. New, old and returning have made a commitment and have stayed with it. Some are sharks and others snails but both doing amazing at their own pace! Now we are in a place where so many are going away – sand or snow. I know it sounds crazy hard to be able to maintain while you are away but if you are mindful and really think about what you are doing it’s not as hard as you may think. Here are some things to remember and follow when on vacation:

CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES ON VACATION: I know I have said it over and over but I like for you to think it in your sleep – In order to maintain you can actually add food or drink into your program and still lose. The reason for this is because when you are trying to lose you need to be in a state of restricted. You need to have LESS than your body needs. When you are maintaining you get to have more food than when you are trying to lose. You get to have enough food – the amount that your body needs to maintain and not lose and not gain.

  • One meal and dessert off OR alcohol but not both. So if you are a foodie then you will eat clean all day and choose one meal a day and one snack/dessert and have that as an off program choice. OR if you are over the age of 21 and like your alcoholic beverages on vacation then you can do clean meals and snacks and have your drinks when you want them.
  • Stay away from the nachos! When you are at the pool or the beach or after the slopes – you will order fresh raw veggies with hummus or light ranch. These veggies will help keep you munching and maintaining while you are laying around enjoying the sunshine or relaxing at the lodge after you ski.
  • If you choose to have one meal a day off program then you do not get a Cheat Day at the end of the week. Remember, the Cheat Day only works when the other 6 days are 110% on program. So if you know you are “off” each day then you are using that and not your Cheat Day. You can’t do both because if you do you won’t maintain you will gain.
  • You can’t run, exercise or ski off a bad food day so any exercise you do, make it in addition to your controlled food day.

The most important thing to remember is how hard you have worked to get to where you are today. You have sacrificed and have gotten yourself to a place where many of you no longer have cravings through the week. When you work so hard to get here you want to be able to enjoy it. Just because you are on vacation or a “stay-cation” doesn’t mean you just go back to your old habits – and trust me they will want to come back. It’s up to you to remember how AMAZING you feel when you are doing the right things. It’s up to you to think about how hard you worked to get to this amazing place.

DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN: Most people start vacation feeling amazing. You work hard and you do all the right things to get there and then all of a sudden by mid vacation you start to think “I can have that – I’m on vacation” and  “I can have that – everyone keeps telling me how great I look” and “I feel soooo good – I’m just gonna have it this one time.” And then slowly you start incorporating more and more and throughout the day you are picking and tasting and sharing…before you know it you are bloated and your clothes are starting to tighten. And if that’s the worst of it that would be enough but it’s not. Because then all of a sudden your mood starts to change. You went from starting the vacation so happy to now you are slowly becoming miserable. You can’t believe you let it get you again. You are starting to feel that heaviness. And you were so happy when you were lighter why did you let it happen…now your whole mood has shifted. You think the kids are driving you crazy but the truth is you are driving them crazy! You are feeling bloated and you are upset and short tempered. All because you feel bigger and bloated because you are no longer in control. When you are not feeling your best everything starts to bother you. And you keep thinking I was just so happy. I shouldn’t be doing this we are on vacation – but you can’t help yourself because your sugar levels are dipping and rising with every unhealthy meal you have. Then you have a drink or a bad meal to numb out the fact that you did it again and the drinks / unhealthy meals just make you eat more and before you know it you are waking up even worse then the day before! Then you start thinking you just can’t wait to get home! But wait it was only a couple of days ago you couldn’t wait to get here!  – DON’T DO THIS TO YOURSELF!  There is no food or alcohol that is worth this. Stay in control and think about what you are eating and putting in your mouth before you do it.  Have a plan everyday so you can enjoy your vacation.

I’m telling you this today before it happens. Choose your battles –  I want you to read this on the plane. I want you to read it on the beach or in the lodge. You are not there to eat out of control. It’s okay that staying in control and on plan makes you happy. Don’t get in the mindset that you need to eat everything because you are on vacation. Because that will make you unhappy not happy! You are not there to be unhappy. You are on this beautiful trip with your family and/or friends and you are there to have an amazing time that should not revolve around food. It should include food but not revolve around it. There is always a healthy choice – MAKE IT! You can’t have the whole cake but you can have a slice everyday and that should be enough. Your “slice” might be dessert, meal, alcohol etc. but choose it and have it everyday – but the rest of the day must be clean. Because you will feel so much better THE WHOLE VACATION if you do. You can have your cake and eat it too you just can’t have it morning noon and night everyday. Choose your battles and know what is important to you. If it’s your alcohol then make a place for it in your snacks. If it’s your desserts then that is what you have each night with the rest of the day clean. If it’s your food then you choose which meal each day you are going off on. You should have an amazing time and you should enjoy everything you want – but that doesn’t mean you go there and you treat everyday like a Cheat Day and it doesn’t mean you go there and lose even a little control because you know better where that will lead. Staying in control makes you happy and makes you feel good. That’s what your vacation should be about – feeling good! When you go on vacation you are supposed to come home feeling better than when you left – make sure you are doing what it takes to feel that. I always tell you that when you come home I will get you back to feeling amazing. But the truth is, you want to be away and feeling amazing. So think about your choices and make sure they are worth it. Because at the end of the day – In the reality of it all, it’s not very hard – IT’S TEMPTING. BUT YOU ARE STRONGER THAN ANY TEMPTATION.<

CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES AND YOU CHOOSE YOUR HAPPINESS.

Life Is About Choices

Yay! It’s Monday!!! It’s the start of another healthy week. Another week where you can see a new low by the end of it. Another week where you can make all the right choices and feel amazing! Don’t look at Monday like it’s the start of just a boring work week – look at it like it’s the beginning of another week where you are learning to love to live healthy!!!! Everything in life is a cycle. When we ride it the right way we can live it the best way. You start your week off amazing and you continue on that path regardless of what gets in your way. You need to make the right choices so that by the end of the week you accomplished another healthy, happy week where you know your numbers will reflect your hard work. Every day is an opportunity to do the right thing for yourself, your mind and your body. Only you can make today a GREAT DAY! Only you can make today a HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS DAY! Only you can do the RIGHT THINGS AND STAY ON YOUR PATH TO REACH YOUR GOALS! Remind yourself how important it is to you and remind yourself how much you want it. How you look at the day and the week will reflect on how your results will be.

VALENTINE’S DAY!

Love is in the air and today on Long Island it’s blowing around like crazy! Hopefully cupid has a steady shot – because he can easily mix up some arrows in this wind. Be prepared for the week and especially for tomorrow. Many of you waited to have your Cheat Day until tomorrow (so proud of you)! That was the smart thing to do when you know that you either have dinner plans or are weak when it comes to those heart shaped chocolates! For those of you who waited, you get to enjoy and not think about what you will order in advance!

If you had your Cheat Day this past weekend you made your choice and you have to stay 110% tomorrow because there is no free pass because it’s Valentines Day. If you are lucky enough to be “In Love” then that should be enough and food a distant second. If your “Love” is not enough tomorrow then you need to focus on what you will have and stick to it. Regardless of where you are going or what you are doing you can order a clean meal…and save your snacks for your drinks. There is always an on program option you just have to make it.

See, when it comes to weight loss it is all about making choices. The Cheat Day helps you do that. That’s why you can’t split them. You can’t have more than one and you can’t pretend it wasn’t bad because you only had “one thing off the whole day.” The whole idea of the Cheat Day is to choose what day is most important to you each week and enjoy it. It’s for you to understand and accept that you CAN HAVE IT  just not everyday. And ONE DAY A WEEK should be more than enough for you. But it does require making choices. Because if you don’t take the time to think and make a choice – you are basically giving yourself freedom to have more than one Cheat Day. And that never works. So if  Valentine’s Day is important to you to cheat, then you should have waited and had a clean weekend and have your Cheat Day on Valentine’s Day. It doesn’t matter if you were going out to dinner on the weekend – it’s a choice. It doesn’t matter if you were only a “little off” on your Cheat Day – you made a choice. You make your choices and you know that Off is Off. If you were off for a day or a meal or even just a dessert – you made the choice to have your day and now you move on until next week. The cheat day only works when your other 6 days are a 110%. You have to make choices and those choices will reflect whether you lose, gain or maintain. You can’t just “wing it” and it just can’t be “a little here and a little there”. When you want to lose weight and keep it off it has to be one Cheat Day a week – no exceptions. Once you start writing your own rules and have a cheat dinner Saturday and then you do a cheat Valentine’s day – You have made the choice to be OFF TWO DAYS in one week…and that is no longer a weight loss week. And whether you maintain or gain will depend on how 110% the rest of your 5 days are.

One Cheat Day is what you get and you should be thrilled with that. When you make the right choices it can and should really work for you in a very positive way. If you really want to see your numbers go down you have to follow it 110% 6 days clean and 1 day off. It’s simple and it’s only when you start writing your own rules and making the choice that ONE Cheat Day a week is no longer enough for you is when you will start gaining. Choices are hard. But when we were young we were taught how important it is to make the right choices – and it’s what we teach our children – If you want success you have to make good choices. It’s time to start living what we teach and preach – and make the right choice that you know will work  for you. So when tomorrow rolls around and it’s  “Valentines Day”  and you already had your Cheat Day you have to make the choice – Do you want to lose weight this week? If you want to lose weight then you eat clean on Valentine’s Day and save your candy for your Cheat Day! If you want to gain weight or maintain then you have your Valentine’s Day dinner and candy and live with the consequences that it was more important to you then losing this week.

Life is all about making choices and when we do the right things and plan we can be amazing. I know it’s not easy. But it’s worth it. Because when you get on the scale you want to see that number lower. You want to feel good and lighter and one step closer to your goal. If you see the number goes up or doesn’t change from the prior week – I promise you that if you can even remember what you ate and drank to cause it – you will think it so wasn’t worth it.

Besides do you really want to over eat on Valentine’s Day? Do you really want to end the night with the one you love stuffed and bloated?

If you want to reach your goals your choices have to reflect what you want. Your choices have to be planned. Your choices have to be the most important thing you make this week.
Life is about making choices and when you make the right ones for your body, and mind, you will realize that making the right choice is so much easier than regretting the wrong one.

Winter Challenge Week 4

4 Weeks in and you are all doing amazing. When you want something bad enough and are willing to work for it the results are endless! Challenges and temptations are always around every corner. It’s up to you how you handle them. One way to handle them is to always be prepared. Being prepared will save you time in the long run. Do it before and you won’t have to worry about figuring it out later.
SNOW IS ON THE WAY…so it’s super important that you keep yourself in a mental place that is strong. Snow lasts a couple of days and the weight gain will last a month! Today is a great day to plan what you are doing tomorrow. Get the snacks and items you need in the house so you are not stuck when you wake up tomorrow morning and can’t drive. Already have your mindset that you will not go off plan because there will be snow when you wake up. Plan to stay home and have your meals and snacks ready so you don’t say to me on weigh in day “I was stuck in the house.” No one is “stuck”  because for my clients that live in the North East you have had more than enough warning that you will most likely be snowed in tomorrow. Get ready for it today. Don’t think, “Oh if I don’t have anything in the house I won’t eat” – that won’t work. There is always something in the house and when you are desperate it’s amazing the things you will come up with. So don’t even put yourself in that position. When it comes to your food make sure you have your plan and know what you are doing tomorrow. And get whatever you need today so tomorrow is effortless with your meals and snacks. Remember it’s a “snow day” not a “cheat day.” At the end of the day you will feel so much better knowing that you stayed on your path and you feel great going into Friday and a weekend where you can pick your cheat day and enjoy it.
There is really no better feeling than when you treat your body right. When you feel good all the time and you do the right things for you body and mind. When you are doing it consistently is when it really makes the biggest difference. Your cravings go away and you know you are on your path to where you want to be. There is nothing worse than being on the roller coaster – up and down and back and forth always ending up in the same place or worse than where you started. In order to be consistent and to get the very best results you need to push yourself everyday. It doesn’t matter how hard it is and it doesn’t matter how challenging it may feel – you need to push past it because when you push past it and you get on a healthy consistent path is when it will start to feel easy. It will start to feel effortless. Remember the hard part is because you are breaking out of the habits that you have created for yourself. It’s moving your body from the weight gain and into the weight loss. It’s paying the price for where you got yourself and working toward where you want to be. Of course it will be hard – but its only temporary. The more you work toward it and are consistent with it is when it will feel easier and effortless. But the more you keep putting it off the harder it will be. The longer you stay on the roller coaster the longer the ride. Face the challenge now. Do the right things and work through the mental pain and create the consistency of working hard everyday for what you want. Because it’s only when you give this 110% 6 consecutive days consistently every week is when you too will see the best results.
KEEP WORKING HARD, KEEP FIGHTING FOR WHAT YOU WANT, AND DON’T LET ANYONE PULL YOU OFF YOUR PATH.  BECAUSE YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON WHO HAS TO LIVE WITH THE RESULTS.

BE PREPARED
BE CONSISTENT
AND YOU WILL BE AMAZING!!
Congratulations to all of our contestants. February is a tough month but a fast month –  Keep working hard, stay strong, and stay on your path.  You are all doing Super Fabulous!!!!

UNSTOPPABLE FORCE MEETS IMMOVABLE OBJECT

There is a term in physics called the Irresistible Force Paradox that asks the question, “What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?”. This premise came about thousands of years ago when a Chinese philosopher wondered what would happen when the strongest spear tried to pierce the strongest shield. Would one break? Would they both break? Would they be undamaged? It is a concept that we still examine and reflect on today in physics, philosophy and life in general.

So what does this paradox have to do with weight loss? When we are going about our day there are certain immovable objects that we face that are out of our control – traffic, school, illness, appointments, bills, meals, etc. Most of the time we feel like we are constantly moving from one task to the next. There are certain things in life that are unavoidable and we can’t let that be our excuse every day for not going after what we want. There will be times when we face choices and we realize that these immovable objects are actually within our control. We rise above and make the right and healthy choice even when we don’t think we can. We are unstoppable forces in the face of immovable objects.

We have to be strong like the spear and fight through things that get in our way. Too busy to make a healthy meal? That doesn’t mean you can just eat pizza or pasta because that’s what your family wants to order. Go the extra step and make sure you can have something healthy and on plan for yourself. Running around all day and can’t find a healthy snack? Don’t just reach for candy or chips. Push past the weakness and cravings and find something on program to snack on. There are plenty of choices at every deli, grocery store and gas station. These are just a few examples of when we have to put in the extra effort to do the right thing. We can’t be in denial and think that every day will be easy – if it were easy, everyone would do it.

We have the power to take the unhealthy immovable objects in our life and turn them into healthy ones. Start new routines, make them your priority. Never miss a trip to the gym or the grocery store to stock up for a clean week. If you really want it, moving forward toward your goals will be unavoidable. And even when you stumble or stray from your path, you get right back on because your goals are immovable and you are committed.

The biggest immovable object that will always be there when trying to lose weight is eating. We have to eat every day, there’s no getting around it. The way that you deal with it determines your success. Will you let it get the best of you – will you give in? Will you let the things that block you and shield you bring you down? Or will you be strong, sharp and smart – fighting for what you want every day, becoming the person you always wanted to be – totally unstoppable.

Winter Challenge Week 2

We are in the second week and the weight results are in. You are all doing so amazing. When you are in a contest it can be a game changer when it comes to weight loss. It’s not for everyone – while some look at competition as a job others need it in their life to help them succeed. There is no right or wrong. It’s matter of choice. If you thought the competition could help you and it hasn’t, don’t be disappointed – because what really is happening is you were looking for yet another thing to make you stick to what you want but at the end of the day it’s always only going to be YOU that makes you stick to something – not a contest. It has to be in your head that you want this – it’s not the competition that will bring it or make it happen. The competition will only bring it out and help motivate what you already knew you wanted so badly. Now I know you are all thinking you all want it so badly. We always feel like we do. But wanting it and wanting to work for it is two very different things. Wanting it and wanting to give up things to have it are also two very different things, and Wanting it and doing whatever it takes to get it  is very different as well. AGAIN, my point is that just because you want it doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. In fact, wanting it and joining a contest is the smallest part of the whole process. We all want things – that’s the easy part. WORKING HARD FOR IT EVERYDAY is what really makes the difference in your success. So take a look at the last couple of weeks. Have you really done everything you possibly could to get results you want? Only you can answer that question.

99% OF THE CLIENTS BELOW CAN SAY YES THEY HAVE!

For those of you closer to the bottom of the list – I see you working very hard. Remember your goal is to get ahead of the person in front of you and as far away from the person behind you. Many of you have lost this week but didn’t see it in the final number because you gained last week. Stay positive and remember it’s amazing that you could come back from that – that’s what you have to focus on. Continue to keep losing and you will keep jumping up the list. This is a learning process. Stay strong, remember what you want. The final prize for you is to have your body as close to where you want it to be by Spring. I have no doubt you can all do this – keep proving it. Keep working hard and putting the time into yourself and your health. When Spring is here you will be so happy you worked hard today to get to where you want to be tomorrow!
THERE ARE NO SHORT CUTS
WORK FOR IT!
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLIENTS BELOW FOR WORKING SO HARD EVERYDAY!

January Is Almost Over

January is coming to an end. I want you to take a moment and look back. Are you where you thought you would be? Have you stayed true to yourself and your program? Do you remember December when you were convinced you just couldn’t wait to eat clean and go back on program and do all the right things? You were so upset with how quickly you put the pounds on and promised yourself that January was going to be your month to feel good and get back to the person you love to be. For those of you who did exactly that – I give you a big congratulations as I know there are so many that are doing amazing and I’m truly so proud of you all for working hard everyday. I know how hard this is. I see first hand the struggle is real. With temptations and pressures of work, jobs, friends, family. It’s so easy to give in. We all get weak sometimes…even my sharks get weak. What you have to always remember is there will always be something going on…happy, sad, good, bad, celebrations, peer pressure, job, family, friends, health. The list goes on and on. This is life and what makes life so truly amazing is the ups and downs we go through to get to where we are each day.
What is important and what I want you to always remember this – When you feel good about yourself, and when you feel healthy and strong anything life throws at you is always going to be easier to get through. There is a sense of power when you feel good about yourself. There is really no denying it – when you are healthy, thin, fit, and your clothes fit you – it puts you in a good place physically and mentally. Your problems make you less upset. You no longer get upset over every little thing. You are not short with your spouse or your children. Everything seems easier to get through – Can’t pay a bill? Who cares my jeans fit me; Homework coming out of my ears? – Who cares the scale was amazing this morning. Instead of hiding from everyone – you can’t wait to socialize and see people. You see, over all when you do the right things for you body and mind…and when you have control over your food and what you are putting in your body to make you feel good – it just makes everything in life easier and makes you a happier person.
Here are some tips for the next time temptation shows up on your healthy path:
1) Remember before you go off program because you are stressed or because of anything that is not going right in your life – remind yourself going off program is going to make it worse not better. The one thing you can control is your food and how you want to look and feel. If you stay on program you will be able to handle whatever is in your way that day.
2) When my sharks get weak they have an extra on program snack. They don’t turn one “off” moment into a reason to cheat the entire day, night and week. If you feel weak and you need something, choose one more on program snack. Most of the time it’s not hunger you are feeding so whatever you have that is on program will help you and it will keep you mentally in the game knowing that you are still on program.
3) Send in your food. The clients who send Me and Thea their food and drink every night do the very best. It is an accountability for you and it helps us evaluate what you are doing and give us the opportunity to change things if we need to.
4) Remember your promise to yourself. Think about December and how you felt. Think about your next vacation and how you WANT to feel. Constantly remind yourself that this is important to you. Remember there is never any judgment on our part. We know how hard it is and we want you to succeed. No one wants this for you more than we do. So if you fall off you simply reach out and we will get you right back on. I don’t care if it happens 5, 10 or 100 times. You have to keep trying and you will eventually succeed. Not everyone succeeds the first time. You just don’t know that because you only see the final product of someone else’s success. I know what it takes them to get there.  And for many, it’s more than once until they really get it and do the very best.  —  Do not wait until you get to a decent number before you reach out. That is never a good thing. It’s like waiting to look good to go to the gym. When you have lost your way and are struggling we are here to get you back on your healthy path.
5) Remember this is a journey – a work in progress. There is no end to eating clean and doing the right things for your body and mind. Even when you reach goal you still have to eat clean and do the right things – so stop looking and feeling like you can’t wait until it’s over – it’s never over. It’s just a matter of what part of the journey you spend the most time in.
THERE IS TRULY NOTHING MORE POWERFUL
THAN FEELING AMAZING
