Pink Promises

In our busy life it’s easy to live in our happy chaotic little bubbles. We spend our busy days running around, working, socializing, preparing, being parents and others helping parents. We wear many hats and have many full time jobs. Yes, life is crazy busy and it’s easy to fall into the mind set of what do I have to do next – because that is all that is important at the moment. The months fly by and then all of a sudden we are making the appointment for the yearly mammogram. I know for most- having any yearly test is scary. It’s very often a topic in my office. Just scheduling the appointment can throw your whole day because of the anxiety that comes with it. I think it’s safe to say it’s a fear among most of us that regardless of how amazing things are at that moment – we can walk in the mammogram room and it be life changing results by the time we walk out.
But what I think we need to remember is while we are living in our little bubbles of everyday chaos and happiness, how comforting and important it is to know that if that day ever comes for us or someone we love – Pink Promises and BCRF are working hard everyday to accelerate the breakthroughs that are bringing us closer to a cure, and speeding up the research that give us the progress that improves survivorship and quality of life. Let’s face it, once you are diagnosed it’s no longer about how to prevent it, your life becomes all about how to survive it.
These things may not be as important to you at this moment and my hope for you is that it never will be. But by donating you are helping your future, and the future of those you love, and keeping that security that you hope you never need, but nice to know is there improving everyday in case you do. That’s an amazing feeling if you think about it. And what is even more wonderful is by donating you are helping all the Men, Women, Moms, Dads, Sisters, Daughters, Brothers, and Sons that are in need right now, today, this moment. Who are living by and depending on the treatments, cures and progress that BCRF is making everyday with our donations.
Did you know that Since the first Pink Promises event in 2010, they have raised over $4 Million to fund life-saving research through The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. And In 2018-2019, BCRF will award $63 million in annual grants to more than 300 scientists from top universities and medical institutions around the globe. In addition, BCRF has established the Evelyn H. Lauder Founder’s Fund, a multi-year international program dedicated to metastasis that is the first large-scale global effort to unravel the biology of metastasis, with more than $30 million earmarked to date. It is the largest privately funded project exclusively focused on metastasis in the world. But there is still more to be done and the thousands of women and men suffering from breast cancer today are depending on it.
I am super passionate about being a part of an organizations that truly makes a difference in the cause. That’s why I chose to be a part of Pink Promises. . If this is something that you want to do and be a part of, please join us at this year’s Pink Promises 2018 Casino Night, September 28. The Event is being held at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, and it Promises to be a memorable evening for all who attend.
If you can’t join us then you may want to donate to support the mission to end Breast Cancer, knowing that whatever you can give – 90 cents of every dollar goes directly to the research. It’s something to feel really good about when you know what you donate is really making a difference in our future and the future of those we love.

Breast Cancer Research Event

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to share with you the opportunity to be a part of an amazing event that supports Breast Cancer Research. Whether it’s self, family or friends, we have all been touched by breast cancer. It’s a terrible disease that has taken away sisters, mothers, daughters and even fathers and sons way too early before their time. For me, I come from a family of cancer. Unfortunately I also witness clients who suffer either themselves or with family, friends and loved ones, and it’s heartbreaking to watch. I have been on the search to find a foundation that I could be a part of. One that I wasn’t just handing money to, but for me it was important to know where it was going and how it was really helping. It was very important to me to find an organization that I would be sure the proceeds were going directly to the cause. There are so many organizations and funds out today, it’s easy to be confused about what exactly you are donating to and where the money is going. So much so that I find many people don’t donate at all because it’s just so confusing on how or who it’s really helping. I was looking to be a part of something that I knew first hand would change the way our future would be affected. Something so positive that I wanted to be able to say I helped in that foundation that changed the future for our children. It’s the one reason I picked PINK PROMISES. But before I signed on, I educated myself on who was involved and where the money was actually going. Since the first Pink Promises event in 2010, they have raised over $4 Million to fund life-saving research through The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) is committed to being the end of breast cancer by advancing the world’s most promising research. Founded by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993, BCRF-funded investigators have been deeply involved in every major breakthrough in breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. This year, BCRF awarded $57 million to support the work of more than 250 scientists at leading medical and academic institutions across 14 countries, making BCRF the largest private funder of breast cancer research worldwide. By committing 91 cents of every dollar directly to its mission, BCRF remains one of the nation’s most fiscally responsible nonprofits. BCRF is the only breast cancer organization in the U.S. to hold both an “A+” from CharityWatch as well as the top four-star rating from Charity Navigator.

Everything about the Foundation and what they do with the money raised is everything I wanted to be a part of. If this is something that you want to do and be a part of, then I urge you to read the attachments below and join us on October 11, 2017. This year, our 2017 event will be a luncheon on Wednesday, October 11th at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury. We are thrilled that Joan Lunden (from Good Morning America) will be the guest speaker and host! It should be an incredible day. We will also have one of the BCRF grantee’s, Dr. Elisa Port from the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai, speak about current issues and developments in breast cancer research.

If you can’t join us then you may want to donate to support the mission to end Breast Cancer, knowing that whatever you can give – 91 cents goes directly to the research. It’s something to feel really good about when you know what you donate is really making a difference in our future and the future of those we love.

Free Month for Cancer Awareness

Far too many times I see women in my office who have not had a mammogram done out of fear of what they might find. They use the excuse that they are too busy, or say that they will go, but they are in no rush because they don’t have family history. I have news for everyone that doesn’t already know this – more than 50% of cancer today is environmental. You don’t have to have a family history to get cancer. But at the end of the day, more people do not go for the life saving test.  Your friends, neighbors, parents, sisters brothers etc. – they just don’t go. They don’t go for one reason – FEAR. The fear of finding something. We know when we go for any test annually that it’s only a matter of minutes that can change our life.  One test and we can become a cancer patient. Yes, I agree, that’s scary. But it’s even more scary to put it off and not know.

If you wait for symptoms your survival rate is less than half of what it is when you find it early. So while I know the fear of finding out something that can be life changing is terrifying, it is far more scary to not know and find out when it’s too late. After each year passes you have the elephant in the room growing because you know you didn’t go the year before. Every year will be scarier than the year before if you continue to push it aside. I speak from experience. I can tell you first hand that when you don’t go – it doesn’t stop growing. I know this because I lost my Mom at the age of 59 and my sister at the age of 51 both to cancer. Both very treatable conditions, but they refused to go to the doctor. Because of my mother’s death, my sister felt doomed. Instead of catching something very early and treating it, she let it grow to the point of no saving her. I have learned from their mistakes and go to every appointment I need to. But it doesn’t make me any less scared. I know every time the results I hear have the potential to be bad news. But I would rather know and deal with it, and God willing put it behind me, than not face it until it’s too late.

I’m no different than anyone else. I try and live as healthy as possible, in the hopes that my healthy lifestyle and low body fat will help me reduce my cancer risk, but I know it’s not a definite. What I do know to be definite is that if I find something early, I can hopefully treat it and my healthy lifestyle will help me recover faster than if I was unhealthy. I hope you can learn from my family’s mistakes and go and get checked. Not just for breast cancer, but all cancers. Because of our environment, it’s important that we have testing for all cancers annually – age accordingly. If you know you have a family history go early. If you don’t have a family history, check with your doctor for what testing you should be having for your age.

Because I feel so strongly about this and because I see first hand so many women who just “don’t make the time” to go…. I am offering my annual FREE MONTH FOR CANCER AWARENESS. Come in with ANY CANCER SCREENING TEST REPORT (MAMMOGRAM, COLONOSCOPY, OBGY OVARIAN, PANCREATIC, TESTICULAR, ETC) that you had completed in the month of October 2014 and we will add a free month on to your existing membership or new membership. Do it for you! Do it for the ones you love! Do it for the ones that love you! FACE IT. DEAL WITH IT.…….IT’S THE ONLY CHANCE YOU HAVE OF BEATING IT.
